Maybe the Swedes are above assuming that every Thai woman is going to start working as a prostitute as soon as she comes into the country. Why should anyone who is capable of looking after them need permission from someone else?

Basically it is illegal to work in Sweden (or any other country) while you're there on a tourist visa. If your wife does this, then she might be arrested, put in jail for a while and eventually be deported out of the country without having the possibility of coming back. It might look as a hole in the system when someone can work there without the proper visa but if they do, they also have to live with the consequenses.

You are not allowed to work with a tourist visa, and if you want a work permit you have to go back to your own country first to apply for it. Probably you won't get it, because it's extremely difficult to move to Sweden without being a refugee or having very close family already in Sweden, for example if you marry a Swedish resident.

You will find a lot of the things you need to know at this website: (its in English) http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/Frontpage.aspx?id=1898 In Sweden they learn English in school (mandatory) from the age of 8 or 9 and most people speak fluent English. You'll also find that even some commercial or ads are in English in Sweden. You will get around just fine with English but you'll need to speak the language to get a decent job. Finding a low-key job as a dishwasher, bartender, cleaner etc shouldn't be to hard. Take a Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) course at the nearest school, courses are free of charge.

Living and Working in Sweden

Living and Working in Sweden.?
Hey, I would like to move to Sweden, and I am currently living in the UK (London). I am a chartered accountant and graduated from university specialized in IT. I have also studied Swedish and have past my exams. So my question(s) is How do I get the right to live in Sweden and work there as well. And also how much does an Chartered Accountant earn average (if you don't know no need to answer). How much is a 2/3 bedroom house (SEK/Pounds) in central Stockholm as that is where I am planning to live. Is Stockholm a great place to live in (be honest please as this can change my mind). Do I need to retake exams to drive a car in Sweden as I have already qualified for a full licensee here in the UK. Is Sweden expensive compared to the UK (optional) Has Sweden got a great late night parties? Thanks this is all I can think of at the moment and I greatly appreciate it if you can answer my questions (not all). I have done research but I want to hear it from a different person/point of view. Best answer gets the highest point even though I appreciate for taking time to answer my question Serious answers please this could be life changing! Thank you again for taking your precious time to answer my question, very much Love from the UK!

If you're male forget it. Sweden is a feminist country that heavily favours women in the workplace, and if you have sex and the condom breaks you can be arrested for rape (seriously).

I read their really dumb people in that country and they give free social services to everybody. Go there and you don't need to work anymore in your life.

Of course, except now is not the time to be looking for jobs in Sweden/Europe. The recession has hit Europe hard too. Some of the large American companies in Sweden are IBM and GM (Saab). Incidentally Volvo is owned by Ford (for now). There are lots of technology companies represented in Sweden. From Microsoft to medicines. I wonder what you really want with this information? Working in Sweden requires a work permit and visa. If you want to transfer to an American company in Sweden it will only happen from within the company. And they don't do a lot of that because of the cost and paperwork involved. They would only do that if they really wanted/needed you. You would need a lot of experience. And not least would you need to speak the local language *fluently* to be of any real use.
