Ofcourse you can. There are Christian and even Jewish Iranians working and living in Iran. Just make sure you are aware of the local culture and do not get yourself into trouble with the law. Then you are screwed litterally.
2 :
absolutely. you can come and live and work in Iran. Iranian are kind toward guests and they are hospitable. and we also have churches in Iran and it means we have christians living here. no worries

as many as you want as long as you are eu citizen with all the rights to work freely and travel freely
2 :
I gathered that you are a citizen of India from your profile. Studying in Sweden won't change anything, you will still be a non-citizen, foreigner without a work permit. You will not receive citizenship by studying in Sweden. You won't even be allowed to work in Sweden without a work permit and residency visa. If you were a citizen of Sweden or some other European Union country you could work in the 27 European Union countries and the 4 EFTA countries. Did you know that studying in Sweden is expensive because of the high living costs? Housing and food is far more expensive than you can imagine. Tuition is not a factor in this. @Orla C Did you read my reply? Did you see that he is an Indian? He's not a citizen of Sweden or any other European country. @Bla Bla Thanks, Orla C ranked me down because she didn't bother to consider his nationality.
3 :
Anywhere in the EU, in theory. Just make sure to have all your documents in order before you travel. Phone the Embassy of the country you wish to live and work in to find out exactly what you need to bring with you.
4 :
Andrew is of course right and therefore why I am replying as well as this needs to be confirmed due to differing answers. Your name does indeed indicate that you are Indian presumably, and assuming that you do not hold an EU passport then you must obtain a visa and also a residence permit. The residence permit will be issued for a maximum of a year at a time and is renewable year on year when proven that the conditions are still met as required (e.g. you are studying and that you can show the applicable level of financial support throughout the entire period of your planned study. Some countries in the EU do allow the student a limited time after graduation to seek work, but according to the official site, this is not the case for Sweden "For studies that will last longer than one year you will be granted a residence permit for one year at a time..............A residence permit for study purposes is subject to a time limit. Even if the period spent in the country has extended over several years you are normally not permitted to become a permanent resident in Sweden" http://www.migrationsverket.se/english.jsp Also note that even if you were to obtain a work permit and residence permit for Sweden post graduation this would allow you to travel in the Schengen zone (not the EU/EEA - e.g. UK is not part of the Schengen zone and Norway is), so take note) However, it would not allow you to work in any other countries. A work permit for a non EU passport holder is usually based on a company and valid only for as long as the person is working for that company and is not transferable to another company. A work permit & residence permit is not transferable to another country. You would have to fulfil the requirements of the specific country which would vary The EU is not as "integrated" as it seems from face value I'm afraid - at least for non EU passport holders.

Hello,my friend If you are enrolled at a Swedish university or university college you can work in Sweden without a work permit. You do, however, need a residence permit if you stay for longer than three months. Nordic, EU and EEA students don't need a residence permit, but need to register at the Swedish Migration Board.

You can find the exact updated regulations on that at the Swedish Migration Board: http://www.migrationsverket.se/english.jsp

The Swedish Migration Board handles all visas and residence permits. If you have EU or Nordic citizenship, you can move there to look for work without a visa. Otherwise, you'll need company sponsorship. If you don't speak Swedish, you should start learning now. It's very difficult to get work in Sweden without good knowledge of a Scandinavian language. http://migrationsverket.se/english.jsp

Taxed savings moving back to the UK?
Hi, I currently reside and work in Sweden and have been doing so for the past 7 months. I'm originally from London, and had decided to move abroad upon meeting my girlfriend. I'm thinking of starting a savings account here in Sweden, and plan to move back to the UK within the next few years. Will I be taxed on my savings?

When you hold a student visa (type D) it only authorizes the travel into the country of issue and would state valid for "Sverige" and would authorize a prior transit of up to 5 days to reach the destination country. It is not like a tourist visa (type C) which states valid for "Schengenstater" and you can use it for traveling through all 25 countries in Europe forming the Schengen zone. What I just can't understand is the fact that you are a student but obviously are not capable of reading and understanding the provisions which have been told to you when you got your student visa. Once you should get a residence permit (Uppehållstillstånd) you may travel up to 90 days in a six months period to other Schengen countries to include Demark for visits (tourist purposes) but not for work. If you would want to work in Denmark you would have to obtain a Danish work permit. Source(s): http://www.sweden.gov.se/sb/d/2059 http://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-us/coming_to_dk/coming_to_dk.htm
2 :
If you work in Sweden or Denmark while visiting as a "student" you will be sent home to Pakistan promptly. (I checked out your website and it seems you are from Pakistan).
3 :
If you have a visa for Sweden you would not be allowed to work in Denmark. You'd have to apply for a separate Danish work visa.

No, and they clearly state that in many different places. The cost of living in Scandinavia is absolutely unbelievable, compared to what we pay in America. And depending on your VISA you will only be able to work 20 hours a week. But, unless you are fluent in Swedish, there is a very slim chance that you will be able to find a job, even in fast food. Also, if you are going for graduate studies the immigration office may not let you work at all.
2 :
No, it is not possible to work to cover living expenses. As a University student, you will need SEK 7,300,- /month guaranteed funding in order to get a residence permit in the first place, according to the Swedish Migration Board. You will be allowed to work, but if you fail to get all your credits for the term, your residence permit may be revoked. Check the Swedish Migration Board site, link below, for further info. Make sure you have all the necessary permits in order before travelling to Sweden. Universities always recommend that you don't work at all, you will have a hard enough time keeping up with your studies. You will be expected to dedicate a minimum of 40 hours/week on your studies in order to succeed and get your required credits. Check with your Programme co-ordinator or similar, but I'm sure they'll convey the same message. Eventually, you may be able to get part time work on weekends and earn some extra pocket money, but jobs available for non-Swedish speakers are few and far between. Cleaning offices, washing dishes in restaurants or delivering newspapers are jobs that only require a rudimentary knowledge in Swedish, but they don't pay more than SEK 100-130/hour gross. 30% income tax is deducted automatically by your employer unless you have been granted a tax rebate.

What other language to learn- Global management (Europe)

What other language to learn- Global management (Europe)?
I am currently a senior, finishing up high school. I am bilingual in Portuguese and English and proficient in conversational Spanish. I am enrolled at the University of Pittsburgh. Should I further my education in Spanish and Portuguese or learn Swedish or another European language in hopes of getting a job? (I dream of working in Sweden or Scotland, or anywhere actually in the European continent as a Global Manager for a corp.)

Learn German! More people in Europe speak German than any other language, and Germany has a very strong economy. Or learn French. French, English, and German are the most important languages in Europe. Portuguese is not a very important language here... actually, even Spanish isn't really, either. One advantage you have is that basically everyone in the Scandinavian countries speaks English, which certainly is not the case in Spain, but if you want to work in Sweden, it might be more practical for YOU to learn Swedish. And... you should also look into realistic possibilities, visa requirements, etc. first to see if the countries you choose are possible.

Post in Sweden, how does it work

Post in Sweden, how does it work?
I sent a parcel by Air Sure which doesn't require a signature, but will be scanned when it arrives. The update that shows on posten.se says: 12 okt kl 09:16 Brevbärarkontor Alsnögatan, Försändelsen har ej kunnat delas ut. Försändelsen aviserad. But if I look in the details, there's one later than that, at 10.32 that says: Brevbärarkontor Alsnögatan, Posten har ej nått mottagaren för utdelning före 09.00. Nytt utdelningsförsök görs senast kl 15.00. Därefter hanteras försändelsen som vanligt brev. I don't understand why the update at 09:32 is showing as the main update, but the one at 10am only shows in the information? There's been no update since yesterday. Is post held somewhere for people to collect or returned to sender? How long do the 'post office' hold on to the parcel?

It sounds like the postal delivery person tried to deliver the package (possibly twice) and there was no one there to receive it. It says a new attempt will be made at the latest 15.00, after that it will be treated as regular post. Most people have a slot in the door for mail. If the parcel is too large to fit through that, it will be sent to a local shop with mail capabilities for pick-up and a card will be left in the mail slot saying where to pick it up. I'm not sure how long they hold it, but it's awhile. I've received packages while on holiday, and they were waiting for me when I returned.

You need to learn the requirements for a work visa first. See site below.
2 :
http://europesworld.info/
3 :
There is no permit for "Europe" - there is a so called 'Blue Card" launched for very highly skilled migrants to be able to move freely based on job offers within the EU, but this is in it's infancy, and also very restructed.. If you want to move to Sweden and live/work then, there you have the choice of moving there as the partner of your girlfriend (family re-unification) - where she will have to show that she can financially support you. Otherwise to get a work permit on your own basis, this will be very difficult (same as if she wanted to move to the US) Contact the Swedish embassy in the US as your starting point with the link from Charlie. The following link (Swedish immigration dept) gives a lot of info also in English http://www.migrationsverket.se/english.jsp with the options available. Of course the price will depend on which route you take. Get as much info as you can, and then make a decision about which way you want to play it. Personally I would advise the family reunification option as it is generally a safer option to ensure you are able to move to Sweden. My husband is non-EU - so we did plenty of research into the options - so this is speaking from first-hand experience :0) Best of luck to you

If socialism is working in Sweden and Norway but failing in Greece and Portugal, which outcome would USA have

If socialism is working in Sweden and Norway but failing in Greece and Portugal, which outcome would USA have?
Would we fail like Greece and Portugal? If we consider the failure of the public housing projects in th 1970's and 80's, does this give us a clue which outcome is more likely if we tried European style socialism in the USA? Jeff, why not learn something about the debt problems the USA is having, and get back to me. Actually, that was the whole point of the question. Do Norway and Sweden have a national debt that is nearly equal to their annual GDP? The USA does. I'd say we look more like Greece than Sweden. oohbother, the federal government owns 61% of GM. That's what owning stock means. But I'm asking, what if we had even more socialism, like some people keep asking for?

You might try learning a little about the debt problem is Greece and ask this question again.
3 :
To me you ve already failed, close to 15 trillion in debt. What i like is how the Euroupean countries take care of eachother. Maybe if you guys werent as fanatical as the rest of the world, you d actually get some help.
4 :
The US isn't far behind due to the social programs put in place since FDR.
5 :
Sweden and Norway are deep in debt to. Its just a matter of time before they fail also
6 :
Depends on your definition of success. If success is defined as taking money away from those that have earned it and giving it to those that haven't then the USA would succeed. If success means making everybody get everything for free then it will fail. Unfortunately, the latter is what is basically being sold to the American public and they are going to be very disappointed when the reality of the truth sets in.
7 :
We have no socialism here. The US government has taken over no productive part of our economy - no manufacturer, no farmland, no mines, no wells... We loaned money to some manufacturers and took stock, but we do not control those companies - the hiring, firing, levels of production, prices, etc are not decided by our government. Social services are not socialism. Taxes are not socialism. The Roman Empire collected taxes and provided bread to the poor - were they socialists? And Canada owns 12% of their stock - but these two governments DON'T CONTROL THE BUSINESS. Control is part of the definition.
8 :
you have to be a racist!!! LOL Just because he is taking over production, nationalizing banks, redistributing the wealth doesn't make Obama a socialist!!! sarcasm off - edit to the poster above me... CITI (worlds largest bank) is now 86% US owned as is GM, Chrysler, AIG and more... so if that isn't proof enough for you then nothing will be.
9 :
Didn't Norway's economy meltdown last year? Or was it Sweden's? One of them did. It fails every time they try it. Socialism=economic suicide. Especially in a nation as big as ours. Proof? The USSR. Didn't even last 100 years. DESTROY ALL SOCIALISTS!
10 :
I don't really think you can compare any of those countries to the US. It's a population/size difference here that can't really be paired up. Also I really doubt the same kind of governing would ever work in the USA due to the millions of other differences. As for debt, I don't know much about Sweden when it comes to debt, but as far as Norway goes, we have this security net called the oil fund. It's basically a "savings account" where oil profits go, and for now we don't touch the actual capita (even though we could stand to tap into it a bit more) so the debt isn't really a huge problem. (The reason there even is debt is a question of liquidation of assets) As for Norway or Sweden having economic meltdown last year, sure you don't meant Iceland? (And just because I'm sick of hearing it, socialism is NOT the same as communism, and socialism in Norway and Sweden basically means that we don't leave our weaker countrymen out in the cold to starve and die. (Yes we have homeless people but very few and they are 99% people who refuse to take the help they are entitled to))

Right now, most schools in California are suffering from declining enrollment. Because of that, it would be difficult for anyone to get a job teaching at an elementary school. However, if you would be interested in teaching middle school or high school, you may have more luck. There is a shortage of math teachers. You would also need to get a California Teaching Credential. Use the link I provided to check if you have all of the requirements. I teach in Whittier, California, which is in L.A. county. Starting salary for my district is $47,000 and the top rate is $90,000. Most district seem to be near this range. I work in an area where there are a lot of Spanish-speaking students, so my district likes to hire teachers who can speak the language when possible. I believe there are a number of teachers from Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries in my district. I have a cousin from Sweden, and he taught here on an exchange program for a couple of years, but I don't know if that program is still around. Good luck!

The best way to immigration to Europe is to graduate from a university in Europe. If you want to work and live in Europe you need a residency permit and a work permit. You will not get this residency and work permit unless you have special skills or have your own company. Special skills are being a doctor or an engineer. Graduate from university in Iran, then get a scholarship to a university in Europe.
2 :
Indeed your wish is the same as many throughout the world. Unfortunately there is a limit to the amount of foreign nationals to which countries can take in. When outside of the EU countries then in principle the only way to obtain a working permit is to hold a skills which is in demand by one of those countries (and this skill is in short demand in the domestic or EU (where applicable) market. Also you would normally be required to speak the local language I can safely say that waitoring is not such a skill which is in shortage within Europe. Therefore my advice would be to either look for a waitor's job in Iran (if this is the industry you wish to follow) or to educate yourself with a University degree in a profession which is in high demand by countries
3 :
I'm Danish, and if you wanna get a job in Scandinavia you need to speak the language. The only other ways of getting around this is working for an international corporation that will sponsor you, or study at a university. Scandinavian immigration laws are harsh - you could end up sitting the next 7 years in a refugee camp. If you must go anywhere, learn the language.

How is Taxation in Sweden

How is Taxation in Sweden?
Hi, I have been working in Sweden for the last 5 months and I'm supposed to leave by January 2009. But, I wish I could stay for a longer time. As per the information I have, I'm tax free for a period of 6 months in Sweden. I'm paying my taxes in my home country. I want to know if I stay here in Sweden for a period longer than 6 months what will be my tax liability. Even though I will fall under taxation of Sweden if I stay in Sweden for more than 6 months, I want to know how the tax will be calculated. Will it be calculated right from the day I landed in Sweden or from the day when my period of stay of 6 months got over. Please help. Best Regards Anand

Higher than most any place else in the world.

They take about half of your income but they provide so many social services that the residents don't complain. You are not taxed on the tax-free period..

Why does socialism work only in places like Norway, Sweden, and Germany, which all have a trade surplus

Why does socialism work only in places like Norway, Sweden, and Germany, which all have a trade surplus?
Now that Greece, Portugal, Spain, and Italy are going broke, liberals are revising their theory that "socialism is working in Europe" to say that "socialism is working in Germany, Norway, and Sweden." Wow, that's super. They realize, don't they, that those countries have a trade surplus? http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Balance-Of-Trade.aspx?Symbol=NOK If we want to adopt that style of "socialism," that means we have to give up buying cheap imports at Walmart. Because those countries don't. Walmart tried to open stores in Germany and they failed. German's wouldn't accept it. There are also no Carrefour, Testa, or Asda stores there. No big box stores selling cheap imports from China or Indonesia to take away the jobs from the domestic economy. Do liberals really want to adopt that kind of socialism? Because that would be great with me. We could finally end free trade and start bringing back jobs to the USA. Reality - no, they are not in debt. They are creditor nations. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Current-Account.aspx?Symbol=NOK http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Current-Account.aspx?Symbol=SEK They may have a national debt on their government bugdet, but that is not really a concern. The USA was very prosperous in the 1960's and early 70's, when we were a creditor nation with a trade surplus, but we had a national debt.

None of the countries you discuss in your question are socialist countries. Thanks for playing, though.
2 :
Well that is the trade off for building a middle class in which people can earn a decent living and we have to give up some cheap products, than yes. Economic growth from free trade is worthless if it only benefits the rich and impoverishes everyone else.

Actualy Norway and Sweden are deep in debt. Not as much as Greece but it's coming soon

It is called culture my friend. If the majority of your people are hard working and intelligent (Germany, Sweden, and Norway) you have a much better chance of succeeding than a country whose people are lazy and stupid (Greece, Spain, Italy).

What is needed to change a Swedish chief officers license to an American license

What is needed to change a Swedish chief officers license to an American license?
My husband is Swedish. He attended maritime academy in Sweden and got all his licenses to work on ships in Sweden. He worked there on board as a chief officer since 1989. We got married and he moved to the United States 4 years ago. We need to know what has to be done to get an American license. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I don't have a good answer to this question but perhaps a starting point. My suggestion would be to go to the website: Maritime Jobs (based in the USA): http://www.maritimejobs.com/ At the bottom of that webpage, you'll find the following words: Any questions? Email jobs@marinelink.com This might be a good place to start because if they don't have an answer to your question, they should, at least, be able to put your husband in touch with someone who has an answer to your query.

I heard some Christians saying that America was founded on Judeo-Christian morals?
But didn't the first Christians that came to America steal the country from the (pagan) native Americans, is stealing a Christian virtue? And wasn't the country found on Native American principles before it became Christian, is it not time for change again? Maybe secularism isn't so bad, I mean it is working for Sweden and most other countries in Western Europe, so why not in the USA?

That is a lie perpetrated by Christians so they can excuse the fact that this land was stolen from the Native Americans. They will insist that the Natives were savage pagan beasts and that God gave them the rights to this land. They will insist that one can not be moral without worshiping the judaeo-Islamic-Christian God (of course they refuse to acknowledge that Islam worships that God but that is for another discussion). They will insist the the 10 commandments are the only moral compass that exists. They refuse to learn history so that they can ignore the fact the Code of Hammurabi predates the 10 commandments by hundreds of years. They also ignore the fact that th US was founded on the principals of Separation of Church and state and that many of the founding fathers were not Christian or belongs to extremely liberal denominations that were not recognized or accepted by more conservative denominations.

how can i naturally lighten my hair

how can i naturally lighten my hair?
people say that the sun does it.. anyone know how to do it? in movies like castaway, we see that hair lightens with sun exposure. anyone know how to do this? i dont understand how this works, because sweden has the most blonde people in the world, yet their sun exposure is little? how does this work. a lot of us portugues dont have light hair, but we see sun?

1 :
You can use sun-in spray. or just stay in the pool for awhile. Hair color is genitic, no matter hw much sun you get.
2 :
ell it is true that the sun lightens your hair but you have to be in the sun alot. I'm not sure if this is the kind of natural you want but thier is this product called "Sun In". You spray it on your hair before you are going out in the sun for a while. You can buy it at most drug-stores and it is inexpensive. Good Luck!
3 :
I've a theory on that. In portugal the skin is darker and ultimately the hair has to be darker in order to accomidate the skin color. Therefore, blond would look un natural. Their skin is dark because it protects from sun exposure. In sweden, I imagine their skin is light and most likely than not they easily get sunburned. Okay, now down to hair. You should try lemon. There are sprays you can buy that will lighten your hair. Nothing very permanent. But it can help. I hope this helps, Chloe
4 :
rinse it with lemon juice every time you shampoo. the citric acid in the lemon juice will lighten the color of your hair. especially when you are out in the sun after-wards. Don't use sun-in. it is peroxide based and will turn your hair orange.
5 :
You can use a commercial product like "Sun-In" or lemon juice. Spritz your hair with either each day before you go out in the sun. After several days you will begin to see the hair that you treated and exposed to the sun has begun to lighten.
6 :
If your hair is black get shampoo and conditioner made fo brunettes. If your hair is brown get shampoo and conditioner for blondes. Also you could spray lemon juice in your hair and lay out in the sun for a while. This works!!! Hope this helps!!! =)
7 :
You can't "NATURALLY" lighten you own hair......The reason people in Sweden have such light hair is because they have very little melanin in there hair or skin ....melanin is what makes our hair and our skin the color it is....Swedish people don't need the presence of melanin to protect them from the suns ray like Portuguese people do ...the sun is much hotter as we get closer to the equator...so peoples hair and skin is darker.......if you have dark hair it probably goes with your complexion.....But as for doing it naturally there is no such way.....you need chemicals..whether it be lemon juice or peroxide.. it's still a chemical reaction !!!!
8 :
Well I think it depends on your hair type. Mine is light brown/dark blonde but in the summer if I spend a lot of time outside in the sun (I live in California) the top gets much lighter blonde. I don't "do" anything to make it do this, I read an article about it once, it's sort of like getting tan from the sun-only the reverse, it gets lighter. Lemon juice can help the process though, but I don't like to use it.

Does anyone know how to get a work visa (ergo job) in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden)

Does anyone know how to get a work visa (ergo job) in Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden)?
There is no fence to jump and I am not into breaking a country's sovern laws. I think it is unfair to get ahead of other honest working people just because you have access to a border/airplane ticket, etc. Does someone have experience, as an American, with getting a working visa in Scandinavia? I have learned to speak and write pretty good Swedish, but I don't know any employers that want to invite me to work. Do work visas allow you to switch employers, or are you forced to stay with the same employer (or else leave the country)? I am not interested in going over there for welfare - I will sign a waiver to receive any welfare benefits. Thanks in advance for your advice. Advice to marry a Swede/Norwegian/Dane is not helpful, nor is the recommendation to become an EU citizen. I know it is extremely easy for gay Iranians and other Muslims to get amnesty visas. There were something like 100,000 immigrant visas granted last year - mostly from the Middle East. Without becoming a gay Iranian, what can I do? The reason I want to go is because I met a girl and we really dig each other. But she can't get a legal work permit for the US either (she is an elementary school teacher).

It's very hard to get a work visa in the Scandinavia if you're not an EU or Scandinavian citizen. They tend to be very separatist and like to keep it that way. However, you can find a multinational American company that does business in Scandinavia and have them post you over to their offices in Scandinavia. They'll have to get a work visa for you in order that you may legally work there. Why do you want to go there? The cost of living is very high over in Scandinavia.
2 :
I don't know exactly how difficult it is to get such a visa, but it definitely is not easy. Denmark is adopting a point system now for foreign workers, so that if you have certain kinds of qualifications, education, job experience, prior income, age etc....all can give you points towards being allowed a "green card". There has been talk in Norway about doing the same, but I'm pretty sure they haven't yet. I think probably the best way to go would be to contact either your own embassy in Scandinavia or contact each country's embassy in your country, they should definitely be able to help you with some of these questions. But perhaps you can start by looking at these websites: http://www.nyidanmark.dk/en-us/coming_to_dk/coming_to_dk.htm http://www.workindenmark.dk/ http://denmark.dk/portal/page?_pageid=374,477789&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL For Norway, I know that they have a quota of 5000 foreigners per year who may be given a work visa, if they have at least 3 years job-oriented education high school level or higher. It doesn't have to be in a specific line of work, but you need to have a job offer from Norway. The quota has never been filled yet, so if you can get a job offer, you should have a good chance. And getting a job offer might not be so very difficult right now, as there's a general shortage of labor. If you speak and write Swedish, you may be able to understand this article: http://www.bt.no/na24/article330021.ece And here's a link about the type of visa: http://www.udi.no/templates/Tema.aspx?id=7404#specialist I assume you're American, so I found the most relevant website i could for you on working in Sweden: http://www.swedenabroad.com/pages/start____7928.asp Good luck to you.

The only thing I can suggest is go to the accurate pay scale and put in your information. Sweden is governed by many different laws. Most depending on experience See this site for an accurate salary and wage determination Wage negotiations in Sweden were especially hard in 1986, with strikes among nurses and doctors. Estimates of hospital doctors' average annual earnings in 2002 ranged from $35,000 to $56,000 in Germany; $127,285 in Britain; and $165,000 to $268,000 in the US. Swedish hospital doctor salaries were estimated at only $56,000 a year - similar to the German figures.

Students can work up to 20 hours per week as long as they have a residence permit and a Swedish personnummer (ie not exchange/guest students). If you are fluent in Swedish, you can take any sort of job that has part-time hours, like working in a restaurant/kitchen/café/club, shops, hotels, cleaning, as a personal assistent, etc. If you don't speak Swedish, you'll likely have difficulty finding work at all. Some people are able to get jobs handing out newspapers and posting bulletins, but there's a lot of competition (especially in larger cities) for only a few jobs. Depending on your skills and languages, there may be other options open to you, like tutoring in your native language, working in a call center or getting a part-time job in a skilled position. However, you can't count on getting work. I know many international students that weren't able to find work for several years (and in a few cases, at all). Student hours conflict with a lot of jobs, which means there's just not much available. There's no minimum wage in Sweden, but most entry level jobs earn about 90 kr (SEK) per hour, which is a little over €8/£7. If you work somewhere like a student union (available at Uppsala and Lund, not sure about elsewhere), the pay will be less. Students generally pay taxes, it depends somewhat on your situation and how much you work/earn.

2 :
From your other questions, it looks like you're American? Just so you're aware, you're limited to 90 days out of every 180 days in the Schengen area (including Sweden and Norway). You're also not supposed to work during this time, though volunteering is in a grey area. Sweden does count room/board as payment, though farms may not care because they're not officially hiring employees. Most volunteer programs require you to pay your own way, but there are a few that provide room and board. WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms) is one of these. You have to pay a small fee to access a country's list of farms, then you contact the farms yourself. You should research people's experiences on that particular farm, because not everyone adheres to the expectations of the network. http://www.wwoof.se/home/ http://www.wwoof.org/independents.asp Another possibility for a cheap visit would be to arrange couchsurfing hosts for free accommodation. Most people will let you use their kitchen as well, which saves on food costs. http://www.couchsurfing.org/
3 :
I travelled around Norway for 5 weeks, and stayed with Norwegian hosts whom I met via these 3 websites: couchsurfing.org hospitalityclub.org globalfreeloaders.com First hook up with Norwegians through these websites, then make your enquiries to them. Good luck. (I don't know about Sweden...I guess the above advice can apply to Sweden too.)

How do I get my amp working in Sweden

How do I get my amp working in Sweden?
Last year I went to Sweden with my guitar and my practice amp, and when I went to plug in my amp, it short-circuited, I later found out, it was because the wattage in Sweden was higher than that of in America, and that much electricity overloaded the system. I had the adapter to plug in my amp, obviously, since I wouldn't be able to plug it in at all without the adapter. Is there something I can do to avoid this? Is this just inevitable, if I want an amp in Sweden do I need to buy one there, thanks. P.S. In case this is important, I have a 15w Line 6 Spider IV amp.
Other - Europe - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
It's the voltage which is higher (220V), not the wattage! You need an adaptor. There are adaptors which are compatible with both, american and european voltages.
2 :
As you have already short circuited your amp you will first have to repair it to working order. If you can do it yourself, you can order your parts from the USA so they are compatible with the amp as is. But if you are 'stupid' enough to plug in an American amp into an Swedish outlet without checking the voltage, I worry about you being able to repair your amp. Better bring it to a local repair shop. Or buy a new amp in Sweden. I hope you did not burn out your guitar while burning your amp. Next time remember that there are plug adapters, those do not change the power. There are also voltage converters, those change the local voltage to that needed for the thing you are using. When using the voltage converter you will need to read a lot, about the voltage in the country you are, what is need for your things and how to set it up.

Why do people say socialism is working in Sweden and Norway when it's crashing in Greece and Portugal

Why do people say socialism is working in Sweden and Norway when it's crashing in Greece and Portugal?
Sweden, Norway, Greece, and Portugal have similarly "socialist" government programs. So why are Sweden and Norway doing well while Greece and Portugal are crashing? Could it be becuase it has nothing to do with socialism? Could it be BALANCE OF TRADE? Check the balance of trade for the four countries: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Balance-Of-Trade.aspx?Symbol=SEK http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Balance-Of-Trade.aspx?Symbol=NOK http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Balance-Of-Trade.aspx?Symbol=GRD http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Balance-Of-Trade.aspx?Symbol=PTE Notice how it's POSITIVE for Sweden and Norway, but NEGATIVE for Greece and Portugal? Is THAT what makes the difference between prosperous and broke? So how does the USA look: http://www.tradingeconomics.com/Economics/Balance-Of-Trade.aspx?Symbol=USD NEGATIVE. We are like Greece and Portugal. What does that say about the USA, when we are more like Greece and Portugal than we are like Sweden and Norway? Sheep, that's what I said. Sweden and Norway don't need to borrow money, they have a trade SURPLUS. That's money coming into the country, they are creditor nations because they have money to lend. Greece and Portugal are debtor nations because of their trade DEFICIT. They have money going out of the country, that's why they have to borrow so much. That's why the USA has to borrow so much. We are a debtor nation because of our trade deficit. Check "Current Account" to see what nations are creditor nations (positive) and which are debtor nations (negative). There's almost 100% correlation between trade deficit and being a debtor nation.

The reason it works best in Sweden and Norway is because they don't allow any uneducated, unskilled, and unemployed moochers from other countries in their countries. If socialism is working in Norway and Sweden, why didn't it save Greece from this debt problem

If socialism is working in Norway and Sweden, why didn't it save Greece from this debt problem?
And with all the debt the USA has, wouldn't socialism fail just as badly here as in Greece? Our national debt is nearly equal to our annual GDP. That's a lot of debt.

It all depends on their policies. The US states were broke back in 2004.

I have been saying it all this time. Is all about population size. Sweden has only 10 million people. That is the same amount of people that live in New York. If people would stop having so many darn kids they would have a much better standard of living. Greece population is way bigger than that of Sweden and Norway. There is only so much to go around.

Greece cooked the books

Because Greece's problems are the problems of the Greek people. The US should pay attention to that idea.

The Greek Socialist government is newly elected. The COnservative government caused the mess. A lot like what happened here.

The political systems are hardly comparable. Greece's main problem is widespread corruption in the government, as well as a bloated bureaucracy that cots a lot of money to maintain, without doing anything. In a recent news article there was an example of a huge public office that was in charge of overseeing a lake - only the lake dried out in the 1930s. There were also examples of public officials getting bonus checks for showing up for work on time. In Norway and Sweden, corruption is virtually non-existing. As for the Norwegian and Swedish systems, they're not purely socialist. The economies are built on an unclear mix of socialist and capitalist ideals, for example by allowing free competition in public transport, but having the government deciding who gets to operate based on bidding rounds. I read somewhere that economists hate Scandinavia because the countries simply don't fit into any of their nice economic models. It's a joke of course, but I believe there is some truth to it. There is some interesting comparisons in this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/14/business/global/14frugal.html?_r=1

If it's a set intended for domestic sales in North America, the answer is no. The broadcast standard in the U.S. and Canada is ATSC (digital) and NTSC (analog). Sweden has converted to a new European standard, DVB-T. See the ref below, scroll to the bottom to find Sweden, then click the DVB-T link.
