She works in Sweden and sends money to her parents in Thailand. Would they get more $ if she worked in usa

She works in Sweden and sends money to her parents in Thailand. Would they get more $ if she worked in usa?
The current exchange rate from sweden to us $ is 6-1 So if my girlfriend moved to usa and worked the same job and sent half her income to her parents in Thailand where the exchange rate is 30-1 to us dollars, would they be getting 6 times more money or how does that work?

Swedish krona = 0.148566 U.S. dollars
2 :
In the US, I pay about 30% of my income to income tax. I'm positive it would be a lot more in Sweden, because of all the benefits they get there. They have a better standard of living, which must be paid for somehow.
3 :
First, what does the job pay in Sweden and what does it pay in the US....... What are the taXES TAKEN OUT IN EACH COUNTRY.............? What are the expences involved in living in each country?(cost of calling home. clothes, apt, priceof trips back to thailand for a visit.....etc...) you have to write it down list all the items side by side..you both have to do this together.....you know some costs and she knows some costs..

Did you know mothers in Sweden are given 18 months paid leave from work

Did you know mothers in Sweden are given 18 months paid leave from work?
Would you like to have that in America, and do you think it will ever happen? Paid leave!

I think I am moving to Sweden!! LOL
2 :
I had an assignment on that in my Soc class. I was amazed to see how much of a value Sweden put on families. It is kinda sad that America is such a selfish country that only cares about making money and material items. I highly doubt America will be that family oriented again, let alone give women paid leave!
3 :
i think, in our country that wouldn't work at all. if mothers could have an 18-months paid leave, our work force will crash down.
4 :
Yes I did know that. And the citizens pay roughly 60% income tax for the privilege. I doubt Americans would go for that!
5 :
18 months compared to my 12 weeks unpaid FMLA (after using up your vacation and sick leave) sounds like heaven. If they increase the paid leave I doubt if we would get any where close to 18 months.
6 :
I wouldn't want it. There are already enough women having babies to get money or mooch. Think about how many welfare moms are out there, constantly popping out kids just to live off the system. I think 18 months paid leave would just make matters worse. Sweden has an entirely different system in place compared to the US. Alot of European countries are having problems with keeping the birthrate up, so this could have been put into place to encourage more births.
7 :
I think it's wonderful. Although I highly doubt the US would adopt such a policy. Motherhood in the US is seen as a "labor of love" and a "choice" and not the hard and IMPORTANT job it is. Mothers (and fathers) today are raising the leaders of tomorrow (sounds cheesy, but completely true). I think it's terrible that such a powerful nation like ours essentially throws new parents under the bus when it comes to raising their children and being able to provide them a good life. 6-8 weeks of leave after a birth (AND it is NOT always paid leave!) is entirely too little. Don't even get me started on the poor childcare in the US, we could be here all day. Thanks for posting this.
8 :
wow I want to move there now!
9 :
ughhhh no fair!! I would love to have that!!! I doubt it will ever be standard in the US maybe with certain companies but not many. Hope I am wrong though!
10 :
Dang I would love that, I'm taking 6 weeks unpaid and that's gonna put a strain on my job as is.
11 :
Would I like it? Yes. Would it ever happen? Definitely not.
12 :
this would have been useful info 2yrs ago when i was pregnant i would have moved asap
13 :
Yes I knew, and I am forever jealous. Ive always wanted to move to europe and that could just be the push I needed to do it. :)
14 :
It will never happen. Corporate greed will always win out, unfortunately. Norway gives the same thing but I think it goes up to 2 years. Most other industrialized nations even have more vacation days etc and they have a better quality of life compared to ours.
15 :
I know, doesn't it sound lovely? I would be all for this even though I'm long past child bearing years. The one thing I will say, as I always tend to look at both sides of a story, is that abuse frightens me. I see women with 7 children (each with a different dead beat father), who continue to have children they can not afford because it increases their benefits. I see women who deliberately get pregnant with a child they don't really want so they can use the child as an excuse to stay at home. None of these children are raised in the nurturing environment they deserve because they're merely a tool. In our society I'm sure some women would abuse this as any system and have a child in order to get a paid 18 month "vacation." Problem is, they would be very unhappy when they found that caring for a newborn is not a vacation and the child would be the one to suffer. That being said I don't think EVERY mother should be punished because of those who would abuse the system just as I don't think welfare should be discontinued because abuse is rampant nor disability discontinued because of the high level of abuse there. Something needs to be done to monitor the programs we do have in place. If that was done, the savings might allow us to help some of the Americans who fall through the cracks and suffer with no assistance at all.

If you have a Swedish passport then you are free to work in Norway However if you only have Swedish residency (or a visa for Sweden) then this is not transferable to any other country. You would need to apply anew for a Norwegian visa depending on your nationality (and I assume as you need a visa in Sweden that you will also need it for Norway as well) You can consult the following site which is the official immigration dept info http://www.udi.no/templates/Tema.aspx?id=9352

You'd need a visa unless you're a swedish citizen

Why is socialism doing good in countries like France,Sweden etc, when people say it wont work in America.?
i know you have to pay a lot of taxes but a lot of good comes out of it like free education and health care. I want a opinion from a European that lives in one and I want details and please tell me if it could work in america if not why. If you don't like this question then please don't answer.

Pure socialism doesn't work. Pure capitalism doesn't work. The countries with the strongest societies are social Democracies that are hybrids between the two. There's a great deal of private enterprise and private ownership, and there's a lot of public ownership in the areas where public ownership makes sense...health care, insurance, utilities, etc. And where you find public ownership, it's often competing with private ownership.
2 :
They are having trouble financially. There is no such thing as free education and free health care. You pay for it with your taxes. America has more disposable income than France or Sweden. A higher percentage of our population owns cars, boats and homes. We live much more comfortably. We have more materialistically than those nations.
3 :
The Reich Wing likes to lie to us. Someone said there is no such thing as free education and free healthcare. I agree. Interstate highways aren't free but they are free for us to use. We all pay for it and society as a whole benefits from it. It's called civilization.
4 :
Don't forget about Canada. USA is to greedy, to much money would be lost.
5 :
They were in economic ruin before the recent turmoil ensued because they have taxed their people so heavily that no one prospers.
6 :
I think socialism is a great idea. I can stay at home and play warcraft while my rich uncle sam takes care of my family. Why didn't some one think of this sooner?
7 :
All of these countries have heavy privatization, the workers do not own the means of production, and there is no dictatorship of the proletariat. A "socialist" society cannot exist without a planned economy, and these countries are all capitalistic [i.e. they follow they anarchic method of capitalism] just with trends of "progressivism," and welfare states. I know many Europeans and they laugh when people refer to their countries as socialist, whether it's an insult or not is irrelevant, its just wrong to do so.
8 :
Opposition in the US is from a part of the wealthy who do not want their taxes increased to provide services they don't benefit from. They have been fighting any element of "socialism" since the 1920's. If it was up to these people, they would have troops shoot starving people in the streets rather than ask a rich man to pay taxes to provide services like unemployment insurance.
9 :
@ katmandu Thats not true. They have as much disposable income as americans do. In fact, they also have more vacations days, higher min wages, higher avg wages...reason being = no huge corporations like in america. Most industry and business is still local and small...yea, there are big businesses...but nothing like here in america...
10 :
Socialism isn't doing very good in Europe. I live in Czech Republic. If you pay attention to the news, you've probably heard the word austerity in recent months. The weight of the social system is crushing any growth in the economy. It's too high a tax burden already, and taxes are going up again. France has announced austerity measures, but the system was already collapsing before the recent economic problems. France has been trying to perfect a socialist system for over 150 years, and it's bankrupted the country many times. It would work in America about as good as it works in Europe. The biggest problem with letting people rely on government is that when the government collapses, everybody starves. Self reliant people (19th century America) need never fear a collapse in government.

Were you able to find work in Denmark, Sweden, or Germany after attending university in those countries

Were you able to find work in Denmark, Sweden, or Germany after attending university in those countries?
I am interested in attending university in Denmark, Sweden, or Germany as a non-EU international student to earn a masters degree. I am looking for a well rated, cheap university that preferably offers English versions of one of the programmes that interest me. It seems Germany and Denmark may be the cheapest. What concerns me the most is finding work in the same country, or nearby countries, after finishing my degree. So, if you've completed masters programmes at universities in any of these countries, please let me know what your experience was in finding work after finishing. If you don't mind, also what school you went to and your degree. Thank you.

Germany and Denmark are the cheapest, they also teach the least in English. Give up on Denmark, they are anti-immigration and preserve it by doing everything in Danish. No school will be cheap for you. Sweden will start charging tuition in 2011. Germany charges about $22,000 a year for the English degree programs that it does teach. Norway doesn't charge tuition but the cost of living is really high there, and student loans wouldn't count, so you would go on personal loans, which are much harder to secure. It is hard to help you since you didn't mention what field you are going to. Finland does not charge tuition, and the cost of living is not that high, they also teach a lot of courses in English, my top choice for grad school in in Finland, they have a great human geography program. Finding work is a completely different game. You will need to speak the language of whatever country you do go to, you don;t stand a chance if you only speak English. Right now their economies are not doing amazing either, so it is really hard to say, but you always have to be prepared to go back home.

No, that's not what the financial aid is for. It's for asylum seekers and permanent Swedish residents who can't support themselves for different reasons. OK, as an EU citizen, you may live and work in Sweden, but if you're planning to emigrate from Cyprus, I strongly suggest you go to a country whose language you speak.

All PS3 games are region free, so any PS3 game will work on any PS3 in the World. Finland and Sweden both use PAL video signals, so you will have no problems. As long as you are staying in Europe, or any other part of the World that uses PAL video signals, you will never have a problem. If you do want to buy a game from a part of the World that uses NTSC (North America, Japan) video signals, then just use an HDMI cable and you will have no problems.

yes all ps3 games and consoles are region free so that dont matter where you buy the console or games to put it in a simpler way you can buy a game from any where in the world and it will work on a ps3 bought from a diffrent place.

You don't say where you are from, if it's the EU you have a wider choice of possibilities since you can move to the Nordic countries to look for work. If you are from outside the EU, you'll need specialised, in-demand skills to find work here. It's very difficult to get a work permit for general labor or unskilled work. There is a lot of offshore/petroleum work available, especially in Norway, so that would be a good choice. Here are some possibilities, the more education and experience you have in that field, the better: -Engineering (petroleum/offshore, mechanical, chemical, electrical/electronic would probably be the best choices). -Some sciences (chemistry, geology). -Some technology, although you'll need extensive education/experience because there are many lower-level tech workers. -Healthcare professions (nurses, doctors, etc) are in high demand. -Qualified teaching, a graduate degree is best. If you want to work in the Nordic countries long term, it would make things much easier for you to learn a local language. While it's possible to get oil/gas work with only English, this usually means working for a British company in Norway. If you speak a Scandinavian language, you have more chance to be hired directly.

Yes, Sweden is a gay-friendly country. There's not much of a "gay culture" though, because everyone is so well integrated. You can get married there, even in the Swedish church if you'd like. http://www.thelocal.se/22810/20091022/ The tax office needs passports, birth certificates and a form that says they aren't already married. Then they just make a date with the place where they want to get married. Sweden allows residence permits based on valid relationships without marriage too though. Either way, you need to apply for a residence permit with Migrationsverket from your home country. This can take many months to process (3-9 months is usual), so an application should be made as soon as they decide they want to live together. http://marriage.about.com/od/sweden/p/swedenmarriage.htm You make an application, and will be called to an interview in your home country. The Swede gets an interview in the mail. The Swede has to show that you can be financially supported until you find work. Everything you need to know is here: http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/flytta_en.html You get a temporary permit valid for 1-year for the first 2 years. After 2 years, if the relationship is still intact, you can apply for permanent residency. After 3 years, you're eligible for citizenship. Until you're permanent, you're not eligible for social welfare. You still get cheap health care and access to education (like free language classes, low-cost university). Taxes depend on your job/salary. They're filed separately, so the marriage part doesn't really apply to how much you pay. I think my job was around 34% when I lived there.
2 :
Sure, they love gays there. Especially in Malmö.

Either call your parents (or friends or other relatives) and ask them to buy you a new ticket or wire you the money or go to the authorites and say you are there illegally and wish to be deported (probably means you wont be coming back though). Good luck.
2 :
I would worry more about the fact that depending on where you are from, unless you are a EU citizen, if you have no work permit, I assume you don't have residency which means they will throw you out, and fine or arrest you if you stay too long. If you are American you can only stay 90 days from the date you entered the country. YOu need to call the embassy TODAY!!!!!!
3 :
If the two of you are married and he's there legally, he is responsible for helping you financially. However, since you don't have a permit, I'm not sure how it would work. If you've been in Sweden longer than 90 days, you are there illegally, and your only option is going back to the US. You really need to speak to someone at the American Embassy. Anything people say here is just speculation, and you need someone that knows your legal rights and the rules regarding this. I know it probably sounds scary in your situation, but I think they are the only ones that can really help you. It will be difficult, if not impossible, to get work to fund a ticket home. The State Department sometimes loans money to help people get home in dire situations. The embassy is located at Dag Hammarskjölds Väg 31, if you are in Stockholm you could go there in person. I think the closest tunnelbana station is Karlaplan. Otherwise, you could call or email them, especially if you want to stay anonymous until you find out what will happen: +46 (0)8 783 5375 Telephone hours: 1:00 - 2:00 PM, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday stkacsinfo@state.gov "Please include a daytime telephone number in your e-mail. We strive to answer your e-mail within two business days" There are a few forums for expats in Sweden where you could ask for advice, but as a warning, not everyone will be nice to you due to the situation. http://www.amerikanska.com/ http://www.awcstockholm.org/sweden.htm http://lostinsweden.com/ Meanwhile, you could try posting a bulletin in your neighborhood, advertising English tutoring or babysitting. I worked off the record as a tutor to a Korean family when I lived in Stockholm (they paid me in cash) and it may be possible for you to get a little work this way. You could also try English/American/Australian pubs and bars. Although they aren't likely to hire you illegally, there's always a chance someone will sympathise with your situation and help out with a small job. I normally wouldn't condone illegal work, but you seem to be a little stuck without it. I know what it's like to be in a foreign country (though legally) without money or family to help out. If you have overstayed the 90 day limit, you may receive a ban to Schengen countries (usually for 5 years) but I think it's unlikely you will be prosecuted or fined in your situation. It's happened to people before, but a ban seems to be most common these days.
4 :
Best thing to do is phone family and ask them to pay for a ticket. Next time make sure it really is love before moving halfway around the world.
5 :
When you leave would you mind bringing along your Iraqi friend to the US? It's only fair that the US ends up footing the bill for ruining his country and Sweden.
6 :
OK, your from the US. So you were just in Sweden for vacation? You need to have a visa if you want to stay for longer than 90 days. You can only get a visa by going back to the US and applying from there. However, t is not likely that you will be granted one considering Sweden's recent spike in immigration and the fact that you have no family ties in order to come here. Call the American Embassy in Stockholm or Göteborg and tell them your situation. It's better that you tell the truth now to not be in any sticky situations with the law. Good luck!

I don't know anything at all about Swedish immigration laws, but if I wanted to find out, I'd go to the official government website for Sweden and find a link to "immigration".
2 :
If you're a UK citizen, you don't need a work permit, but you do need to get a residence certificate within 3 months of arriving in Sweden, from the Migration Board: http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/start_en.html Getting a job is harder, but if you don't mind menial tasks, you have more options. Here's a link to the Swedish job centre site with information in English about working in Sweden: http://www.arbetsformedlingen.se/Globalmeny/Other-languages/Do-you-want-to-work-in-Sweden.html You can get away with speaking English only for quite some time, but you will have to learn Swedish eventually. Getting accommodation in Stockholm is probably the hardest part. I don't live there and have very little experience. Finding someone to share a flat with is probably as good a start as any. Why not try the British Expats site? In their Discussion forum you might find a few Brits already living there who can share their experience. http://britishexpats.com/ It's great that you want to be part of your daughter's life while she's growing up and I hope you are able to get some support from her mum even if you're no longer an item. I wish you the best of luck.

From what I could see of your profile I am guessing you are Egpytian. I don't believe you will be able to move to any of the Scandinavian countries for work. Denmark and Sweden are both part of the EU, Norway is not, but you would have to apply for a Schengen Visa even to visit them. Applying for a work permit is impossible without an existing job offer in one of the countries. You have to find the position first, otherwise they will not even consider your application. And there is no immigration for unskilled workers. I have attached the Arabic pages of the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration that contains all the information on the subject.

New cell phone that will work well in Estonia and Sweden

New cell phone that will work well in Estonia and Sweden?
I'm currently out of contract and would like to get a new phone (actually two). We're also visited Europe this summer and it would be nice if we had a good option to be able to use our phones there. But I don't anticipate regular international travel. What do I need to look for in a phone to make this happen smoothly? and affordably?

Hi, I would recommend a quadband GSM mobile phone. That will ensure that it will work on any GSM network worldwide. You can also get a prepaid international sim card that can be used whenever you travel and you can keep the same number wherever you are. For best prices on bot these things, I recommend going to http://www.bigtimewireless.com for an unlocked mobile phone and go to http://www.bigtimewireless.com/Prepaid-Sim-Cards-s/3480.htm for a prepaid sim card. Also, they ship worldwide, and they ship fast. I hope this helps. Good luck!
2 :
any quadband phone will be fine, but im not sure how to go about getting service there. I would just use my cell phone sparingly.
3 :
Choos quadband phones, support every GSM band frequency, real worldwide phone, good website can offer latest quad band phones. www.good-wholesale.com

sweden has a very stabile social system, but since you are from india I dont know if you can go easy to sweden because you need either a study/work permit or a so called "schengen visa" both require some proof of enough money. but if you work in sweden to cover your study expenses you will earn enough money because sweden and many other european countrie have a high hourly wage , even if you only work at starbucks or mcdonalds etc... If wish you good luck with your study!

How much tax I'll pay if I'll work as cook in Stockholm, Sweden with gross salary of 18000 kronas (2000 euro)

How much tax I'll pay if I'll work as cook in Stockholm, Sweden with gross salary of 18000 kronas (2000 euro)?
I'll be temporary Sweden resident and as I know should have 25% salary free of taxation. And for last 75% tax rate should be 25%? Am I right? Of course 18000 Korans per month. Sure!

It is far more complicated that. If 18000 SEK is your total income for the year you should not have to pay income tax. If you earn 18000 SEK per month a rough estimate would be 30% tax on the part of your income exceeding 24000 SEK every year.

Sort of, and not any more. It was an experiment, and only ran for a couple of years. The participants recieved 85% of the _unemployment benefit_ they would have received if they were unemployed (which is certainly a lot less than 85% of their salary!) but were guaranteed their job back at the end of it. The idea was that long term unemployed people could take their place, get current work experience, a current reference, and a year of good earning, while people working could take a year off to do something they found interesting, without risking losing their job over it. The scheme ran as a limited scheme(10 cities) from 2002 to 2004 initially, then as a state scheme (nationally) 2005 to 2007. It was finally shut down after the change of government at the last election, and there was quite a lot of criticism that the scheme didn't reach the right target groups among other things. There were several academic studies going on around it, to study the effects on job seekers, the people who took a year off, how it affected the businesses that were involved etc.

Both countries use PAL broadcasting (Phase Alternating Line, a color encoding system used in broadcast television systems in large parts of the world), so they should work. Here in the US, TVs are made for NTSC broadcasting. NTSC is the analog television system in use in the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Mexico, and some other countries, mostly in the Americas. It is named for the National Television System Committee, the U.S. standardization body that adopted it.

In over the air (freeview) digital format (including HDTV) which is DVB-T the answer is yes. In analog format which is PAL the answer is maybe possibly yes.

Yes, you can. I hope that is not your real last name. It is scary.
2 :
A permanent residence permit will allow you to work. Whether a temporary residence permit will allow you to work depends on the reason for issuing you the permit. Residence permits issued for unversity studies, research or being an aggrieved party or witness in a criminal investigation will allow employment, while most other permits will require a separate work permit.

I just bought the kit for my Macbook Pro (which I know it works with), but the question is will it work for Sweden? It says continental europe, which Sweden isn't exactly part of continental europe. I thought i remembered when I was there this summer, that the plug was slightly different then mainland europe. Does anyone know for sure if it will work or not? Why on earth would your local tax department report anything to the Swedish beskattning, beskattningen, beskattningar, beskattningarna?? Best regards, Yahoo Tax Havens

How would one go about moving to Sweden when they are currently a U.S. citizen

How would one go about moving to Sweden when they are currently a U.S. citizen?
Serious answers only please! Of course a passport would be necessary. Where would I start to look for the requirements? Do I have to get a work visa? Can I only move there if I'm working? What kind of benefits would I get? When would I become a citizen? How long do I continue to get benefits as a U.S. citizen? How do you get dual citizenship? Do I have to file taxes in the U.S. if I work in Sweden to maintain my U.S. citizenship? Any resources or general pushes in the right direction are super appreciated!! Are Swedes kind to Americans that move there? How common is it for Swedish business to speak english? and the general Swedish public? Where can I learn Swedish quickly? No, I do not have a criminal record and I'm not moving there because of legal or financial problems. What type of government does Sweden have? What's the weather like? (I know -- I can get that info from a great web site -- weather and gov't info will be easy for me to find.)

If you have or get a job there, or if you are maried to someone who works there or is a citizen, then it is a lot easier to get permission to stay. Getting a work or study visa as a student for a limited time period is also quite easy, provided you have been accepted into a study-programme in Sweden or through exchange. In that case, you might even be elegible for Swedish student loans/support. People in Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland) usually learn english as their second language, and are tought in school, from about the 3rd grade. As TV and movies usually are subtitled, people are used to listening to english. If you move and live in some of the larger cities, you should be okey with your american english for a while at least. It's easiest to learn swedish in Sweden, living with swedes. I'd say people in the cities in Sweden generally would be welcoming of americans, if you yourself are open towards them. This includes open to accept answering or discussing their perhaps pertinent questions regarding american foreign and internal policy. Sweden is a constitional monarchy, AFAIR, but with a democratically elected government on all levels. In wars, they have resently stayed neutral, like the Swiss. Sweden is geographically a "long" country - something like 1300 hundred miles long on the north-south axis, and perhaps 200 miles across on it's widest. The southern part has farmland akin to Wisconsin, but with temperate, seaside climate, and beech-wood forests on granite rock. The northern parts have different shades of pineforests, also farming, and at places quite a lot of forestry, with some lakes and rivers. The northern-most part is within the arctic circle meaning that the sun never sets during most of the summer, but also, that it never rises most of the winter. Rough country, with low pines, raindeer, tundra, mountains. So, nothern parts are a lot like Canada :)

Try the European Job Mobility Portal. It's a list of positions available to residents of the US and EU. However, many listings for Sweden require you to be fluent in Swedish, as well. If you are, good luck! otherwise, get your learn on at the online FSI language site for a crash course.
2 :
You don't need citizenship to live in Sweden (and you won't get it by marrying someone, only after years of living there legally). Work is the hardest way to move to Sweden (or anywhere in the EU). You need to work in a field that's lacking qualified workers, and have education/skills that local applicants don't. Most of the time, permits are only given for highly skilled jobs in areas like engineering, science and health care. If you're in a long-term relationship with a Swede, you can move based on that and are allowed to work. Just a warning, it's still not easy to get work. The economy is bad, you definitely need to speak Swedish and most people study so if you don't have certification in something you're at a disadvantage. I moved this way, and it took me almost 2 years to find a job. It's easier if you have contacts/friends in a position to give you a job. The easiest way to move is to study, but Sweden plans to start charging tuition for international students next year. If you don't have the savings to cover those fees and living costs, you'd need student loans/grants from your home country. You're allowed to work while studying. To study for a Bachelor's you usually need to speak Swedish, but you can do an exchange program or a Master's in English. If you're in a band (or a tech/manager) that has a regular income, that's another possibility. You have to show an employment/promoter contract with a guaranteed wage. http://www.migrationsverket.se/info/168_en.html Otherwise, you can stay in Sweden for 90 days out of every 180.. but can't work during that time.

Please wait Don"t select any answer as best and close the topic: NTSC video quote NTSC is used in United States, Canada, Japan, in most of the American continent ... NTSC runs on 525 lines/frame and its vertical frequency is 60Hz. .... unquote I think it is 525 lines in U.S and 625 in Europe. also vertical fame rate is 60/sec in U.S and 50/sec in Europe. There are various standards , and that is why TV purchased in U.S does not work in your country. Screen picture will look like it is coded.( encrypted) .In Europe and many other countries 5.5 MHz seperation . for the Video Tx freq and Sound Freq . In U.S it is 4.5 MHz apart . ( the bandwidth etc ). Again from Yahoo Answers Quote NTSC is analog tuner, ATSC is digital tuner. In order to receive digital stations, your set must have an integrated ATSC tuner in addition to the NTSC. If your set is HD-ready it means you'll need an external ATSC tuner box or a High definition receiver form either cable or satellite provider. unquote. I don't think you connected the TV to an 230V outlet directly!Your TV seems to ready for both NTSC and ATSC Just to add to the confusion . There is another standard PAL ! May20th: Isaiis: Thanks for the info that the system is PAL. Countries may adopt different systems but the TV manufacturer normally give a menu to select the system NTSC/PAL etc. Also in Sweden you wont watch U.S programs direct but through a Satellite link. There is hope the TV can work in Sweden. via satellite known as Direct to Home ( DTH service ) checking up/waiting for more details.

How does the mangle in my laundry room in Sweden work

How does the mangle in my laundry room in Sweden work?
So, I've been living in Sweden a few months now and each day figure out how something works differently. But I'm stuck on the mangel in my laundry room. From what I understand it squeezes out the excess water from sheets and rolls them in such a way that they don't need to be ironed, is that right? And are you meant to dry them (the sheets) a little first? Can anyone explain step by step? Maybe there's an instructional video? To be clear I know exactly what a mangle is generally speaking. But the Swedish version looks complicated to use - there's an image on this webpage http://www.dillen2.se/images/18.58b55df710900f8463c800010928/mangel.JPG
Cleaning & Laundry - 2 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
A mangle is a large, flat iron. Since it doesn't make steam, the clothes have to be a bit damp to get the wrinkles out. If they're dry, you can use a spray bottle of water to dampen them.
2 :
Hehe, I've been fighting with ours in my laundry room, and gave up after it trashed a kitchen towel! (The machine is old and knackered.) Seriously, I haven't been able to find any instruction video or even a very good instruction manual. The one I did find is in Swedish. I'll supply the link anyway. Look at it while reading the instructions. Speaking of excess water, you may have an external high-speed spinner in your laundry room. They're very handy if you're in a hurry but still don't squeeze enough water out to use the mangle, you still need to hang your laundry up until suitably damp for ironing. Think of the mangle as a huge ironing machine. Sheets and towels should be damp as for ironing, definitely not wet! If they're completely dry, you can spray them with a little water to make them damp. There must not be any buttons or zips or other things on any item you wish to mangle. Usually there is a mains switch somewhere that you have to set to on first, marked 1 on the image. Then pull the fingerguard (fingerskydd) (2) up towards you (reverse mode/back). Pull out the built-in mangle sheet until there's only one layer left on the roller. Put small items on the sheet, well flattened, streched and unfolded. Move the fingerguard down (forward mode/fram). The mangle sheet with your laundry gets rolled around the rollers, your laundry inside the sheet. Let it spin for a few revolutions, then reverse to get them out again. With any luck, they won't get creased! Sheets and duvet covers: as above, but only pull out 30-odd cm (1 ft) of the mangle sheet, the rest of it should be left rolled around the roller. If your sheet is too wide, just fold it once, lengthwise. Put the top end of your sheet on top of the mangle sheet. Put it in forward mode. Most of your sheet will then be rolled onto the roller outside the mangle sheet. Let it roll for a few revolutions, then stop and reverse to roll it out. Very thick items can be squeezed between the rollers just once, with the mangle sheet completely rolled around the roller first. If in doubt, try to get some friendly neighbour to show you how to work it! In any case, try first with some small item that you don't care too much about. I made the mistake of trying to mangle a kitchen towel folded three times. It got stuck in the machine and both my towel and the mangle sheet got ripped in the process. I got it out, but had to get the super in to fix the mangle. Oh, and beware of the 'laundry room police' (tvättstugepolisen) - there will always be one neighbour assuming that role, out of self-righteousness, who watches over the laundry room and leaves angry notes if they feel you haven't cleaned up after yourself properly or exceeded your laundry schedule. They're a curse, but almost every Swedish apartment block will have one! ;-)

As a US citizen what should I do to get a job in Sweden?
I'd love to live/work in Sweden but I need to know first what are the steps I should take to go over there and make this come true. I am a 26 year old Informatics' Bachelor graduate born in Texas. Do I need a special VISA (or equivalent) for doing that? Any specific details will be WELCOME! Any details on how to become a Swedish citizen will be appreciated too!!! Thanks.

Is there a Swedish Embassy nearby where you live? If not, go online and look up either Embassy of Sweden or Swedish Embassy on Google.
