restrictions on non EU citizen to work in norway or sweden

restrictions on non EU citizen to work in norway or sweden?
I know that Norway isn´t part of the EU Sweden is, does anyone know of any restrictions for a non european to live and work in these countries? Obviously would need the relevant residency card I guess but would there be restrictions on getting that given that they are non european?

Basically immigration laws have tighted up generally over the last 5-10 years due to large influxes of immigrants and movements of people within the EU Therefore unless you hold an EU/EFTA passport it is very difficult. Yes Sweden is EU and Norway not, but Norway does have an agreement with EFTA/EEA member states to accomodate the same freedoms and similar policies with regarding to EU citizens seeking work and thus the restrictions are as (or even) more restrictive You will either need to be (a) self-employed and show evidence of a thiving business (b) a highly skilled migrant with skills/experience which are in demand in Europe (and usually already receiving a high salary in your domestic country) or (c) sponsored by a company - and this is only normally done in the case that they cannot fulfil the job from the pool of labour within the EU or that you have specialist knowledge/experience Also in principle you will need to speak the language of the country you work in (although there are exceptions to this if the company is an International one whose working language is e.g. English) There are small differences but there generally the policies are very similar and restrictive for all EU countries, but I do not know about the non-EU ones. The best thing to do in order to get accurate info including viability & time is to contact the embassy of the country you are interested in. They can provide you the official information (and often a lot of this is online e.g. for the UK and Netherlands it is anyway)

My wife is Swedish but studied Nursing at USQ in Australia, we are moving to Sweden next year and wondered how hard it was to convert that degree so she could work in Sweden as a Registered nurse. Oh and does it take a long time to do?

Does the Exchange Students are allowed to get jobs in Sweden

Does the Exchange Students are allowed to get jobs in Sweden?
There is a Masters program in Software Engineering I wish to join, in which I study first year in India and second year in Sweden. I was wondering if after completing the course, will I be allowed to work in Sweden? Does the employers take exchange students? Also if you know anything about Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden, about its reputation, quality etc please give information.

Ppl on student visas are allowed to work 20 hours a week. There might be some difficulty to get a job though since you don't speak Swedish but there are companies that takes in foreigners, ask ppl at the university, they'll be sure to know since you far from the only one who comes here.. sigh.. and we pay for it.. anyway they know where you should turn. Never heard of that university but it's probably really good.

What jobs are in demand in Sweden? Could I do international business there

What jobs are in demand in Sweden? Could I do international business there?
I'm an American majoring in business. I would like to leave the country and live and work in Sweden, or any other European country will do, but what jobs are in demand over there? Is doing international business and learning Swedish and then moving to Sweden a good idea? Would teaching English as a second language in Europe be a good option as well?

I don't know much about demand for international business in Sweden but I did teach English in Europe for quite some time. To put it bluntly it is pretty miserable, the pay is terrible, you spend most of your time going from one class to the next, commuting all over town, and working long hours. One thing is certain, learning Swedish will help you tremendously regardless of where you end up working. If you are dead set on Sweden start learning now! I guess you could try and see if there are any American businesses opening offices in Sweden or any English companies opening schools where you could grab a job first and then head over to Sweden.

Why does public health care work in some countries and not others

Why does public health care work in some countries and not others?
Does public health care really work in Canada? Does it really work in Sweden? Why will it or will it not work in the US. In my opinion Public Health only works in countries where the citizens really take care of themselves, and the system isn't loaded down where people suffer from self inflicted problems, cause by smoking or poor diet. I do believe I asked "WHY" is doesn't work. Not whether it works or not. I agree that Public HC doesn't work in Canada. Exellent answer Mommanuke!

No, it doesn't work in other countries, that's why they all come here to get the health care they need.
2 :
Name a country it works in? It doesn't work in Canada and my sister in law and her mother, who still lives there, can attest to that. It doesn't work in the UK. It doesn't work in Mexico. OK, I believe it may work in Sweden. Yeah, it's the fat smokers who cause the problems for public healthcare, not how it's run. Unbelievable!
3 :
It kinda depends on what other taxes are imposed on the people and how much they are willing to pay in those taxes.
4 :
some people like freedom and others like to be nannied
5 :
Public health care DOES NOT work, especially in Canada. Regardless, this is America, we do not need the government involved in our health care or any part of our lives. The purpose of the government is to defend their citizens NOT to rule their lives.
6 :
"In my opinion Public Health only works in countries where the citizens really take care of themselves, and the system isn't loaded down where people suffer from self inflicted problems, cause by smoking or poor diet." Private health care works even better in those situations as well. The difference is that with public health care, the government can use regulation and force to make people be healthier in the form of banning things and such. First I'd need to find out in which countries a public system is working. Not just perceived as working, but really working in terms of low costs and high availability and little to no wait times.
7 :
As you can see from this article, Canadian health care works much better than that in the US. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_health_care#Canadian_health_care_in_comparison The main problems in Canada are the same as in rural America, with under served areas outnumbering the cities. In addition, the WHO ranks Canada's system as 30th while the US system is ranked 37th. And Canadians don't dislike their system as much as you think. http://news.yahoo.com/s/mcclatchy/3276285 Canadians only come here if they can afford our prices. US citizens are beginning to go to places like India, Mexico, and Thailand for their health care. In some instances, the corporations they work for or the insurance company that covers them arranges chartered flights taking bunches of them abroad. http://www.truthout.org/article/amid-health-crisis-more-americans-going-abroad-care The Swedish system, which is totally different from Canada's, works very well. They still have wait times, but there is a guarantee that if the procedure cannot be scheduled with three months, the government will arrange to fly the person to another country to have it done. http://www.sweden.se/eng/Home/Work-live/Society-welfare/Health-care/Facts/Swedish-health-care/ You will also notice that their health care costs have remained relatively stable since 1980, instead of experiencing massive inflation as the one in the US. The number one system in the world in both WHO ratings and consumer satisfaction rating is the French system, which is a combination of government and private insurance similar to that which Obama is trying to get passed. How much can be blamed on personal health habits is difficult to analyze. For years the French were extremely heavy smokers and are only now beginning to see the changes we are seeing here in the States. All Europeans walk more than those in the US, but their countries and cities are not as widely spread out as in the US and they also have better public transport systems. They also do not have a culture which bases a large part of ones sense of self worth on what kind of car one drives. There is no stigma in most of the middle class and lower citizens for not owning a car. Almost every country in the world eats better than Americans, but if you want Americans to eat better, you are going to have to change production of agriculture in the US. An estimate was done last year that showed that if every American tried to eat the fruit and vegetable recommendations of the FDA, there would not be enough available for them to do so. You will also have to get rid of the third rail agricultural subsidies that have so much corn being grown that high-fructose corn syrup is now in everything from bread to bologna. But the real problem is, we have all these millions of people who are in poor health. What good will it do to tell them they deserve to be sick and not pay for their care?
8 :
The real answer is that no matter what in countries where they have a socialized health care system the quality of care greatly diminishes. Cancer Survival by Country Coleman and colleagues drew on data from nearly 2 million cancer patients, ages 15 to 99, whose medical information was entered into 101 population-based cancer registries in 31 countries. The patients had been diagnosed with one of four cancers: breast, colon, rectum, or prostate cancers during the years 1990-1994. They were followed up to 1999, with the researchers comparing five-year survival rates. The highest survival rates were found in the U.S. for breast and prostate cancer The study showed the US had the highest five-year survival rates for breast cancer at 83.9% and prostate cancer at 91.9%. The UK had 69.7% survival for breast cancer, just above 40% for colon and rectal cancer for both men and women and 51.1% for prostate cancer. Older people are refused organ transplants and kidney dialysis in socialized countries. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/7510121.stm Socialized medicine is killing people. People that are covered now and would get excellent care, will be killed. You may be deemed to old for health care and the government may choose to put you down. That is just the ones they report. i wonder f they even report the ones that they simply refuse to even treat because of age or costs. basically like any other time that the government gets involved it punishes those that are responsible for those that are irresponsible. If you look around the world at their socialized system you would be loosing health care. It would take you longer to see specialists, if you were to be stricken by cancer the government would decide weather or not you would be eligable for treatments. Right now, anyone in this country can have top notch health care. It simply has to be their priority. I got a job at 18 that provided health insurance. I was a teller at a bank. It was far from my ideal job at that time, but I needed health insurance and I made it a priority. Basically the government is taking health care from those that have it as a priority andgiving it to those that do not. There will not be more doctors, in fact the government will cap their pay and highly regulate them meaning there will be less doctors. There will not be more hospitals. Basically the government will not create any health care, it will simply distribute it. Also, they will take the profit motive from all companies related to the health care industry and that is where the only cost savings will come from. This may sound good, but it really means no new innovation because they will nto be compensated for R&D and the risk of putting all that money on the line for research if they do not make anything off of it. In countries where socialized insurance exists, there is no new innovation. We can not afford it. Basically the democrats claim that there are 47 Million people without health insurance. The Government plan costs way to much and it will still leave 20 Million uninsured. We will not only destroy health care for the middle class, but we are going to burry our children and grandchildren in debt all so able bodied and minded people simply do not have to take responsibility for themselves. Finally, The government health care plan will destroy private insurance plans. In this video it shows Obama talking about it as well as other democrats. They are fully aware that it will drown out private insurance. basically like any other time that the government gets involved it punishes those that are responsible for those that are irresponsible. If you look around the world at their socialized system you would be loosing health care. It would take you longer to see specialists, if you were to be stricken by cancer the government would decide weather or not you would be eligable for treatments. Basically the government is taking health care from those that have it as a priority andgiving it to those that do not.

Public heath care works in Sweden because it encompasses every type of illness and everyone is and everyone is covered from the day they are born. It works when the population is willing to pay higher taxes not only for their own benefit, but for the benefit of everyone in their family, for example I may not be sick, but I have relatives that are and so they have the possibility of becoming healthy again without becoming a financial burden to the rest of the family and without the fear of not being cared for. Basically, public health care works when the system is properly managed and maintained by everyone the system is meant to care for.
10 :
i ACTUALLY am Canadian so i feel i have a better idea about our health care system then non-Canadians who have nothing to go by but the propaganda they are being fed. No one in Canada is ever refused care. If you are sick you can be 203 and you will still get the care you need. My aunt is an 86 Year old alcoholic smoker and she is currently getting kidney dialysis. My grandmother passed away last year at 97 and she was receiving care right up into her last days. At 85 she got Cancer and was considering NOT having surgery and just allowing the disease to take its course. Her doctor was the one who convinced her to undergo the surgery and her care was so wonderful she lived another 12 years after that! .....no one is ever denied care here, even the suggestion is ludicrous! and if a doctor or the government ever tried it the Press and the people of Canada would through a fit and there would be a media frenzy. There are plenty of hospitals in Canada. The city i live in has a population of 140,000 and we have 2 hospitals. There are probably fewer hospitals in Canada then in the US, but there are also fewer people. And in Canada you can go to any hospital and receive the same high quality care. Can the same be said about the US? If everyone in Canada has the choice of going to any doctor they want and any hospital then logically it means they will all choose the best doctors and the best hospitals, which leaves no room for "pseudo" professionals and ill reputed hospitals. there is not a shortage of doctors (i have two family doctors one in the city my parents are from and one if the city i go to university). There is trouble finding doctors to work in remote areas, but that is also true in the US where doctors are also reluctant to work in low income areas - which is not a problem in canada. There are a lot of specialists in Canada and you do not have to wait to see them. My mum had a mole on her nose her doctor thought might be skin cancer and wanted to have lopped off. my mum wanted a 2nd opinion and the next went to see a specialist in the big city an hr from where i lived. Just like in the US specialists often work in big cities where there is a higher demand for their services, but they are NOT non existent in Canada. Why wouldn't it work? you already pay tax's (and they have already determined the Canadian health care system costs our government less money) AND you pay for health insurance. Why not pay that same amount of money in tax's and then not only will you and your family be taken care of but so will poor helpless children whose struggling single mothers cannot afford health care and dinner . . . . Are American doctors really greedy enough they would stop treating people if the prices they were able to charge became regulated by the government? Because that is not the case in Canada. Doctors still make A LOT of money here (med schools here are incredibly competitive as bright men and women vie to be caregivers . . . and to take home the respect and fat pay check doctors receive). It is true that family practitioners get paid a fix rate for each patient (depending on what your visit is for and the length of the appointment) but they are no more likely to cram in more patients to make more money than an American doctor would. A greedy person is going to try to see as many patients as they can no matter how much they are getting paid. It is easy to find a responsible practitioner who takes their time when seeing you. there is still innovation and competition in Canada. We have made many great medical inventions including insulin and the pacemaker. if a company (or professor or team of doctors) invents something or comes up with a new medical procedure they are not going to sell it exclusively in Canada (just as if they were American they would not just sell it exclusively in the US) therefore they can set whatever price they think the consumer will pay . . .but in Canada the consumer happens to be the government. It's not like they pay in seal pelts, those who invest in the research still make a lot of money off the end product. So there IS still innovation.

it depends on your blu ray player whether it region 1 or 2
2 :
Blu-ray discs are classified into 3 regions. Region A includes most North, Central and South American and Southeast Asian countries plus Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Korea. Region B includes most European, African and southwest Asian countries plus Australia and New Zealand. Region C contains the remaining central and south Asian countries, as well as China and Russia. Since UK and Sweden both fall under 'Europe', it will most likely work. If not, however, there are software 'hacks' you can google up on your particular model which will allow it to play all regions, but I don't suggests you mess with it unless you know what you're doing.

If your country is part of the EU, then you don't need a work visa. If you are from a country outside the EU, then you must go back to your country and apply from there. It takes an average of 6 months to a year. You need to apply through "Migrationsverket" (migrationsverket.se).

At the moment, there are 169 jobs announced at the Job Centre. Only a couple require no previous experience. Most of them also require you to be fluent in Swedish. Remember that your course administrators may have rules or recommendations on how many hours per week you are allowed to work, and the Migration Board may deny you a student visa if you work too much. You are allowed to work part time as a student, but you'll have to ask them how many hours/week they will accept. Your student visa is primarily for studying, so if you work too much, they will deport you or deny you a an extension of your current visa.

As far as I can understand, you can apply at any Swedish Embassy or Consulate, and they will forward the application to the Swedish Migration Board for processing. Please check with your nearest Swedish Consulate - the US ones are listed in the below link from the Swedish Embassy web site in Washington DC.

With a temporary residence permit issued specifically for studies work is allowed as long as the holder studies as intended. A former student can, on certain conditions, apply for a work permit from within Sweden and does not like most other people have to apply from home. This is the only formal advantage in this situation. It may be possible to stay on and work in Sweden, but you must have an employment offer where the employer demonstrates that the position already has been advertised in the EU and that the salary and other conditions are not inferior to what is usual. In practice you will need skills that are in very high demand.

Apply and see if you meed the criteria to get a student visa to Student to Sweden. The Swedish government has introduce fees for all non-EU students in Sweden 210. International students are not allowed to work part/full time in Sweden
2 :
www.studyinsweden.se and www.studera.nu Check out those websites they have all the info that you will need. Once you get a student residence permit you automatically get a work permit but there is a catch. You have to have this personal number. If your program is longer than 1 year then you get a personal number as soon as you arrive and you will have no trouble applying for jobs because you must have a personal number just to apply. On the other hand if your course is for less than one year than you are not eligible for a personal number, but you are still able to work. Well, actually you get a 'pseudo' personal number that is alpha-numeric instead of the normal one that is only numbers. It can be tricky though because most reputable employers wont give you the time of day if you don't have this number and in order to get it you have to have a job offer. Plus, it is pretty difficult to find work in Sweden if you don't speak Swedish. Good luck.

I'm going on vacation to Sweden in a week weeks, and I'm wondering if my blow dryer and hair straightener (that I bought here in the US) will work there, with the different power and plugs and such? And what would I have to buy to get them to work there? I know you can buy a plug adaptor thing that will make it fit into the outlet there, but what about the different voltage?

You would need an adaptor, as an American plug would not fit in a Swedish socket. I do not know if such an adaptor is easy too obtain in the US, but there should be no problem in Sweden, e g Kjell & Company, with 40 stores in Sweden, carry one for SEK 89 (approx USD 11). Voltage in Sweden is 230 V AC 50 Hz (som older installations electric razors in bathrooms for have 115 V). Many appliances are able to work with 110–240 V and 50–60 Hz. Usually voltage limits are written on appliances. Do not guess! Equipment not approved for 230 V should only be used with a transformer.

So move, nobody is stopping you. Unless it's the Kenyan or Swedish government. Then you've got a problem.
2 :
What's your question? Since you're not an EU citizen you need a company or whatever to sponsor you to work for them. It needs to be legit and it's not easy getting a work permit unless your line of work is in demand. For Americans and so on I always recommend trying to find work in a company with departments in Sweden and then asking for a transfer but there are few companies that have departments in both Kenya and Sweden. If you're educated in a profession that's in high demand you could give it a go though. But there's another problem of course - language. Which is why I always suggest the transfer option because finding work in Sweden whilst not speaking Swedish can be tricky to say the least. Unless you work in IT or engineering you may have difficulties. Which leads me to option B: Do what I just said in another EU country. Since you speak English the UK would make sense since it might be easier to find work. Once you get a work permit and then further down the road permanent residency (and then citizenship) you can simply move freely to Sweden as an EU citizen. I know refugees who do this the other way around (that is, apply for asylum in Sweden - naturalise - and then move on to the UK). Which I think is abuse to the system, btw, but it's different when you're a work immigrant. ;) Good luck!

It;s not hard. It's cold and dark there so not many people immigrate to Sweden.

The visa might be simple but the work is a big question mark. Swedish is difficult and too few people speak it to be of any use, except in Sweden (they speak English most of them). From my daughter-in-law. She works in London, that is how much work there is in Sweden. Peace.

No, if you hold an Irish EU passport you can live and work in Sweden without needing a visa or residence permit. For a stay of longer than 3 months you just need to register with the Swedish Migration Board. http://www.swedenabroad.com/Page____103396.aspx ..

Will my degree in America, work in Sweden

Will my degree in America, work in Sweden?
So I've been planning to go to Sweden for awhile now, but..I will be taking classes soon in the Cosmetology/Esthetician area in America. When I go there, will it mean anything to have studied these things or will it be a total waste of time? Will I be able to find a job?
Other - Europe - 2 Answers

1 :
Most likely your degree will not be honoured in Sweden, but with what you have learned you will be able to get a course in Sweden in the same field and have it much easier to pass the exams. I have never heard about a degree in the Cosmetology/Esthetician area in Europe, but I am not specialized in higher education nor in Cosmetics and so on, so you might be able to get your papers 'translated and reevaluated' so you can use them to find work. It is however not one of the fields of education that makes it easier to get visa and work permits.
2 :
Yeah, any education is good =) In Sweden you can study cosmetology but you will get more of a certificate than a degree. I don't think there is an abundance of jobs in that area of work but you could look at work in hair salons, spas, even leisure centres. It's difficult to find work in Sweden period, for anyone with any type of degree... I don't think it will be a waste of time, but if you are moving to a smaller city you may struggle to find work in that area. Be prepared to do something slightly different. If you are moving to a larger city then you may have bigger chances of getting something. Just know that these type of work places are far more common in the States than in Sweden. I have never even seen a nail salon in Sweden (they do exist though somewhere I'm sure) =)) I'm Swedish but I have a degree from the States and never had any problem. Everyone speaks English so I don't even bother translating my transcripts.

I believe you can work as much as you want too. But it's not easy getting jobs though.
2 :
Students from Nordic, EU and EEA countries are permitted to work in Sweden throughout the academic year. Students from other countries may work and do not need a work permit to do so provided they are enrolled at the university and have obtained a residence permit. However, full-time studies require 40 hours of work a week and are difficult to combine with part-time work. Please bear in mind that opportunities for part-time work in Sweden are limited and that most jobs require knowledge of Swedish.

How do taxes work in Sweden

How do taxes work in Sweden?
I am about a year away from being out of school to be an Instrumentation Technician and my fiance and I are seriously considering me working in Sweden. Her dad came over from there when he was younger and has taken her to visit. She says it's gorgeous and we thing it would be an amazing place to start a family. I'm just not sure how the taxes would work for us.

Just Google "taxes in Sweden" and you'll find tons of information. Just so you know, it's SUMMER that's beautiful. I didn't find winter to have much to write home about, unless cold and dark is your cup of tea..
2 :
Sweden has a socialist, cradle to grave system. Yes,it's beautiful. Who'd wish to work in a big brother type system. Orwellian nightmare.
3 :
No, Ned, it's not an Orwellian nightmare.
4 :
Au contraire to what Ned said, it is not an orwellian nightmare. I guess he doesn't really know what sweden is about. The taxes are high in comparison to many other countries, but one get's pretty much in return. For example; the health and school system are both for free, so you won't get ruined if you get ill and you don't have to worry about how you're gonna afford sending your kids to college. Most other things, for example day care and eldercare is also really really cheap. And the taxes are calculated as a percentage so you pay a certain percentage of your income. Sweden is a beautiful country, no doubt about that one. But the thing I like the most about the country is that everybody is very open-minded, tolerant and helpful. I really like it here :)

IS IT POSSIBLE TO WORK IN SWEDEN?
I have Spanish Resident and Work Permit and i am deciding to go and find job in Sweden. I would like to know if i can work with my Spanish Work Permit in Sweden. If no,is there a possibility of finding any odd job illegally? Please help me.
Other - Europe - 1 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Since you have a Spanish work permit, I'm assuming you don't have citizenship with an EU country. In that case, you need a separate work permit from Sweden, which isn't easy to get. A company has to sponsor you and show that there were no sufficient applicants from within the EU, which means you need to be highly educated or do very specialized work. Permits can't be issued for odd jobs and general labor. http://migrationsverket.se/english/eat/index.html Being that it's so difficult to find odd jobs legally unless you at least speak Swedish well, your chance of finding one illegally is close to zero. There's no reason for a Swedish company/individual to take the risk of hiring illegally when there are plenty of EU immigrants already there looking for a job. I lived in Sweden (legally) for 2 years before I found work and know many others that have been in the same situation.

It's hard. There is a website called www.thelocal.se You can ask on the "discuss" section there. btw almost every job in sweden requires you to speak swedish. Swedes can already speak great english and other languages so why would they hire you when you can only speak one? Why are you living there if you are not going to learn swedish anyway. As an immigrant you are entitled to 240 hours of free swedish lessons. Also Swedish people try very hard to avoid employing foreigners and there is high unemployment is sweden even amongst swedes. Why are you living there?

Well you could try going to Arbetsförmedlingen, they can help you. But it will be hard if you can not speak swedish. Good luck though (:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_future_Human_Development_Index_projections_of_the_United_Nations In 2030 Sweden will have a lower HDI score than Libya " In 2009 an EU report showed that Sweden by far has Europes highest amount of reported rapes per capita with twice as many rapes as the United Kingdom and four times as many rapes than Germany and France"

3 :
Socialism does not work long term. Short term you can borrow and spend but long term, the bills come due and people wont work hard because they feel entitled to everything for free.
4 :
I don't really see the connection rape -socialism, but I'll give it a try anyway. In the last 10-20 years or so the view on rapes have changed dramatically in Sweden, and also the attitude towards reporting rapes to the police has changed. In many parts of the world this is usually seen as something shameful, something that is best to keep quite about. Women in many countries are repressed and hushed. This is slowly starting to change here in Sweden. Women are getting stronger and more independent and thus have more courage and strength to report rapes, and the state help them in this quest. This is probably why the amount of reported rapes has hit the roof in recent years. The sad truth is probably that the numbers are equally high or maybe even higher in other countries, but this is not brought out in public, this is hushed and hidden in the dark. So sure, maybe four times as many REPORTED rapes than Germany and France, but that doesn't necessarily mean that there are four times as many rapes going on in Sweden.

yes, all those northern european countries have systems that allow for free enterprise while also taking care of its most needy citizens. if you go there, you will find no homeless people, education is free all the way through college, health care is free, etc. yes taxes are higher but the standard of living is also higher, paychecks are higher to offset the taxes, and many things we have to pay for are free anyway. it works very well.
2 :
Sweden consists of at least 90% ethnic Swedes and has the population of New Jersey... about 9 million. Compare that to the demographics of the US and the 300 million+ population. It's like comparing apples to oranges. Sweden doesn't have the world's most powerful military like the US and Sweden has little responsibilty around the world except for taking care of themselves. Sweden does not have a massive illegal immigration problem. Imagine making the US a welfare state like Sweden and having 30 million+ illegal immigrants leech off of it.
3 :
it only works because they have very few poor people. they are almost all very smart, because the average scadinavian speaks perfect english as well as their native language. america cannot afford to take money from hard working people and piss them off to feed masses of lazy morons who are parasitic and weak

I'm 18yr old and swedish. It's true that our country is based on social-capitalism. The government do alot to help citizens, compared to other countries such as Russia. However, they have been transferring ownership of business from the public sector (government) to the private sector (business) latetly becuase our taxes isn't high enough. Welfare is very costly. Hmm, and I don't know why we are selling very profitable companies to America. We have very high taxes. They are f*cking insane. Many of our immigrants are not integrated in the swedish society and most of them do not work and live completly of our welfare system. This is not good to swedes or the economy. But our economy is going up, not down at the end of the year. Our living standard is pretty high. You will not find any homeless people, except the ones who can, but don't pay the bills. If you want to start a company, don't go to Sweden. ----------- The employer need to pay 30% payroll tax. As an employee you pay around 30% on remaining money. 25% TAX on the most products. It's also 25% on food if you eat it in the restaurant. But if you take the food with you, or buy it in a food store then It's 12%

You can only work in Sweden with a Swedish student visa, unless you file for a separate work permit in any other country in which you would like to work. And such a foreign work permit would not be approved unless you have a job offer already in place. For instance, if you want to work in Norway over the summer you would have to find a company that would be willing to sponsor your application for a work permit (and that isn't very likely unless there is extreme demand for that particular skill, or you are uniquely and expertly qualified). Even within Sweden you have to file for a Tax ID number with Skatteverket in addition to your Swedish student visa. Your student visa give you the right to work in Sweden, but only in Sweden. And Skatteverket will only give you a Tax ID number if you already have a job offer. Usually it takes about a month to have your Tax ID number issued by Skatteverket (and you cannot begin working until you have it). Also, Sweden is unique in that with a standard student visa you can potentially work up to a full-time job without having to file for a separate work visa (although you do have to file with Skatteverket for a Tax ID number). In Denmark and Norway, however, with a student visa (from each respective country) you can only work up to 15 hours a week. If you want to work more than that you have to file for a special work permit, and it will only be approved if you already have a job offer. In almost all workplaces conditions are set by collective bargaining between trade unions and employers and certain aspects are also regulated by law. This means that the individual contract is in most cases not very detailed. An employment contract often carries little more information than particulars of the parties, duration of employment and salary. If the employer is not party to any collective agreement which is very rare, the situation is often more insecure for the employee, but there are still laws guaranteeing certain rights, like paid vacation and sick leave. The majority of the workforce are members of trade unions. There are several unions, for different occupations, but almost all are in one of three large confederations: LO (steel workers, painters, assistant nurses etc), TCO (journalists, registered nurses, musicians, civil servants etc) or SACO (dentists, architects, lawyers etc). It is highly recommended to contact the trade union for your occupation before signing any contract. They can tell if the employer is party to any collective agreement and if so giving you the details as well as tell you what salary to expect. They can provide you with useful information and assist you in any conflict with the employer. Joining the trade union is often a very good idea. You may not be covered by public medical and social insurance; you should inquire about this at Försäkringskassan (the Swedish Social Insurance Agency). You will not be able to get medical insurance from your employer. If you are an American citizen you will normally need a work permit before going to Sweden. You should apply for that a Swedish consulate and enclose a formal employment offer where the employer clearly states the conditions including salary and also shows that persons not requiring a work permit have been able to apply and that the trade union believe the conditions to be at least equal to what is normal in Sweden. As work permits can be hard to get and unemployment is very high in many sectors it is vital that you make sure that this offer is legitimate. If in any doubt the trade union can help you out.

"Socialism" in Sweden is merely a slight, political inclination at present, and it doesn't have any big influence on the existing social programmes. What it means is precisely what you said. If somebody is unable to fend for themselves, they can, upon application, be provided with means to live in dignity until they do find employment. Not too different from most places, you say? Quite true, pretty much any country these days has programmes like that. But the ones in Sweden are especially generous. They also give the person in question extensive healthcare and social benefits of a genre unknown to some places. There is a constant need to justify these niceties though. People don't just get stuff thrown at them, they need to prove that there is no other way for them to get by.

In both countries there are many universities, where you can study several faculties. the job opportunities are depending from your personal qualities and education. Generally, I would say, that sweden may be the better choice, if I were you. But you aren't me!
3 :
I agree with the previous answer. I'm partial as I'm Swedish but I've been to Ireland and that's a great country too. I think job wise though you may find it easier to find work in Ireland. It obviously depends on what you wish to do. The most common part time jobs are working in bars and restaurants and Ireland have a lot more of them. If you manage to get a part time job in Sweden though, you'll probably get slightly higher wages. Sweden is a fairly expensive country but depending on where you live you can find cheaper shops and with good budgeting you should be fine. I think you'll be happy with whatever you choose. This didn't help at all, did it? =))
