No, the requirements are not the same as Sweden; having a student visa does not necessarily entitle you to work in Denmark.
2 :
If you are not an EU Citizen, you will need a work permit. To get the work permit, your education has to be one of those, that are in demand in Denmark. There a not a lot of jobs available, so it is an almost impossible task at the moment. If you have a job at hand, it can help speed up the process with the permit. If yo do not speak Danish or fluent English, it will be even more difficult.

Do I have to pay US income tax if I am a US citizen married to a European living and working abroad

Do I have to pay US income tax if I am a US citizen married to a European living and working abroad?
If I am married to a Swedish citizen and am living and working in Sweden, do I pay US income tax? If so, how much? And how do I eventually stop? Would I have to renounce citizenship? We never plan on going back to the US. I have a Swedish personal number, i.e Swedish SSN. I won't be using my American SSN at all. My question is, how would they even know I was working here?
United States - 4 Answers

1 :
If you are a US citizen, you have to file a US return and report your income. Whether you would owe any tax is dependent on much info you did not provide. This will remain true as long as you are a citizen.
2 :
There is a certain amount of income that is exempt from taxation if you live abroad but you need to file. If you dont come back ever it would be hard for the irs to catch up with you.
3 :
As a citizen, you file a 1040, using forms 2555 and 1116 to limit the impact of double taxation. If you decide to renounce your citizenship, there is a form--and rules apply so that you can do it simply to avoid paying taxes.
4 :
The US is one of the few countries that taxes on the basis of citizenship rather than residence. In order to keep US workers abroad competitive with other international workers, it excludes from taxation a fixed amount of money earned abroad, known as the foreign earned income exclusion. For 2007, that amount was $85,700. That sum is free of US taxes. Anything beyond $85,700 is subject to US tax, unless you are paying taxes at an equal or higher rate elsewhere. If paying higher taxes abroad, you can use a foreign tax credit to offset your US tax liability. If there are low or no taxes overseas, then according to the law, the first dollar of compensation above $85,700 is taxed at the rate it would be taxed at as if the person were living in the United States. Previously it had been taxed as if it were the first dollar earned, at the lowest rate. One of the other posters suggest renouncing your US citizenship. Think about that long and hard before acting as there are far-reaching consequences. Section 349(a)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) (8 U.S.C. 1481(a)(5)) is the section of law that governs the ability of a US citizen to renounce his or her citizenship. That section of law provides for the loss of nationality by voluntarily performing the following act with the intent to relinquish his or her US nationality: "(5) making a formal renunciation of nationality before a diplomatic or consular officer of the United States in a foreign state , in such form as may be prescribed by the Secretary of State" A person wishing to renounce his or her US citizenship must voluntarily and with intent to relinquish US citizenship appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer, in a foreign country (normally at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate); and sign an oath of renunciation Renunciations that do not meet the conditions described above have no legal effect. Because of the provisions of section 349(a)(5), Americans cannot effectively renounce their citizenship by mail, through an agent, or while in the US. A person who wants to renounce US citizenship cannot decide to retain some of the privileges of citizenship, as this would be logically inconsistent with the concept of renunciation. Thus, such a person can be said to lack a full understanding of renouncing citizenship and/or lack the necessary intent to renounce citizenship, and the Department of State will not approve a loss of citizenship in such instances. Persons intending to renounce US citizenship should be aware that, unless they already possess a foreign nationality, they may be rendered stateless and, thus, lack the protection of any government. They may also have difficulty traveling as they may not be entitled to a passport from any country. Even if they were not stateless, they would still be required to obtain a visa to travel to the United States, or show that they are eligible for admission pursuant to the terms of the Visa Waiver Pilot Program (VWPP). If found ineligible for a visa or the VWPP to come to the U.S., a renunciant, under certain circumstances, could be barred from entering the United States. Nonetheless, renunciation of U.S. citizenship may not prevent a foreign country from deporting that individual back to the US in some non-citizen status. Also, persons who wish to renounce US citizenship should also be aware that the fact that a person has renounced U.S. citizenship may have NO EFFECT whatsoever on his or her US tax or military service obligations. In addition, the act of renouncing US citizenship will not allow persons to avoid possible prosecution for crimes which they may have committed in the US, or escape the repayment of financial obligations previously incurred in the US or incurred as US citizens abroad. Hope this helps a bit.

does she have a counseling license? To be honest, finding employment in California right now would be most difficult either in clinical work or for the government. The economy in Ca. is terrible and many are cutting back on non-essentials.... It is best that she find a position first....but to start the ball rolling she needs to contact an American embassy and get the forms to come as a worker...depending on what is required, move in that direction

You do know Sweden is Ranked most free and democratic country there economy is good as well norway is a great country to live in as well typical republican speak when you don't know your facts I'am guessing you think Right-Wing countries like Iran,Saudi Arabia are better ja
4 :
Civilization will come to the US one day. Its inevitable,
5 :
Norway, Sweden REALLY!!! REALLY!!! WHO CARES ABOUT find something better to do
6 :
I love your false assumptions and the inherent bigotry behind them.
7 :
You're showing your ignorance again. Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland are 4 countries that have the best living standards in the world. But being Republican you couldn't even fathom that.
8 :
Why doesn't the right in the USA realize that we're not trying to implement system of Socialism like Norway, Sweden? Although - have you ever noticed how high Sweden and Norway rank in every livability ranking ever?
9 :
Are you talking about the American farmers? Listen dude - it isn't their fault that the family farm has been put out of business by corporate farming in this country. And so now they are caught up on these massive homestead tracks of land with no viable crops, no job opportunities, and no education in the area. You make them sound like such bad guys with your "want want want" comments. What you don't realize is that America has adhered to a social contract since it's inception. If you want to call that "socialism" in our capitalist democracy - then go right ahead. It will be difficult to be taken seriously but that's your choice.
10 :
For one, those countries do not have near the population we have, not to mention, they do not have the welfare state we have. Where the left fails to understand is a system like socialism only works if everyone is willing to put in, but when you have more people wanting to take out rather than put in, you end up like Greece, or any of the other failing socialist governments of Europe.
11 :
Yeah, why would we want to imitate countries with the highest standards of living in the world when we can instead be a banana republic where tiny elites own everything and the masses fend for themselves!
12 :
"socialism like Norway"? What? Look, Those countries are not socialist
13 :
Because you are hearing that from the Right that will find everything negative to say. They do not want Health Care that that will interfere with their Best Friends (Insurance Co) Profits . Republicans work for Big Corporations. Not You.
14 :
The right wing myth that the "poor" just want to take from the wealthy. The American dream is generally false and removing free access to equality of opportunity such as access to education keeps the poor in their place and maintains the in-balance in American society. America is ruled by a rich elite that have ascended from the robber barons of the 19th century and continue to protect their own. That's why the right hate Obama so much, because he isn't "one of us". It's not socialism it's true equality of opportunity. One thing that the countries you mention have is social mobility and that's one thing that's being stifled in the US. The myth that it's because of the homogeneous populations is just that a myth!

Is it possible to be a vegan in Sweden

Is it possible to be a vegan in Sweden?
I am going to vegan as an exchange student in a few months. I am a vegan and I am hoping that a host family there could work with this diet. Is Sweden a country that has vegan good options? Is there modern grocery stores where I could pick up some good food items? Is Sweden a good country to be a vegan in?

Yes, they have vegetables in Sweden so why not? Sweden is not a 3rd world country that has no food.
2 :
I'm from Holand.....isn't that weiiiird!!!!!
3 :
Apparently there is growing interest in, and products for, a vegetarian /vegan diet in Sweden: http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/Article____16239.aspx
4 :
Yes Sweden is a good country for vegans and the food is good. You have to talk with your host family about this, I´m quite sure they understand. Vegan food is a little bit more expensive than ordinary food. I´m not from Sweden, but the neighbour country Finland, and in both the countries we like vegan food more and more. Good luck with your host family and I hope you will enjoy your stay in Sweden.
5 :
Absolutely! Do you know what town you are staying in? I might give you directions to a local vegan food place.
6 :
"Good" depends on what you are used to here. Do not expect any soy or other TVP products in grocery stores; you can find straight tofu at Asian markets and occasionally veggie burgers in organic shops, but expect them to cost 2-3 times as much as in the States. About the only vegan food you will be able to find in supermarkets is bread (depending on how strict you are) and fruits and vegetables. In the winter, the variety of fruits and vegetables is pretty awful compared to the US and they often look pretty anemic. It is also next to impossible to find beans, straight-up nuts, and peanut butter. Do not expect that many people know what veganism is, despite a recent interest in eating less meat. I have never seen anything labeled "vegan" in Europe (England doesn't count). One friend who is a strict vegetarian recently inquired at a restaurant if one particular dish was vegetarian; the restaurant said it was, and the dish arrived, filled with bacon. Gelatin is also considered vegetarian by most Europeans as well. Eggs and white sugar are in almost everything, too. If you can gradually work your way up to eating dairy and eggs, that will help out a lot, but even then, it's almost impossible to not somehow have some sort of animal byproduct slipped in from time to time anyway.
7 :
You already asked this EXACT question (word for word), and you already recieved a whole bunch of answers to the same effect as this one ... do think if you ask it again the answers will somehow be different when they all say the exact same thing. You can be a Vegan just as easily in Sweden as you can anywhere else in the Western world ... it won't be a problem for you anymore than anywhere else. As for the respondant right before me ... Swedes know what a vegitarian is. Holy crap ... where do you live? I knew quite a few Scandinavians that were vegitarians. They also know the difference between a vegitarian and a vegan, and there are stores that sell products specifically for vegans in any town with more than 30,000 people. Even the local neighborhood COOP I used to shop at (that was very small even by European standards) had vegitarian and vegan products (not a wide selection, but they had them). I guess what I'm trying to say is I've lived in Sweden for five years, and I find your answer to be completely wrong. In fact, I find it completely wrong for just about every country I've been to in Europe.
8 :
I agree with blursd2! What is Erica talking about? The country she is describing does not even sound like Sweden. 1. Swedish people know what a vegan is. 2. You can find soy products and veggie burgers pretty much everywhere. 3. It is very easy to find beans, straight-up nuts and peanut butter (wtf? I lived on that when I was living in sweden..). Erica, you don't know what you are talking about. And by the way "years of living in Europe" does not = "years of living in Sweden".

Answering this backwards: Easier (less packing) to buy them here. I've moved internationally with small children before, the less you bring the easier it is to get set up. Also, most of my friends who bought things over when they moved were prepared for a North Pole expedition, but the weather in Stockholm even in January is substantially milder than most people expect. You'll have more idea _what_ to buy once you're here. If your swedish is up to it, you used to be able to run a budget at 'Konsumentverket' (basically the Swedish department of Consumer Affairs) based on what the government thinks is reasonable, but they've closed it down, although you can download the figures here: http://www.konsumentverket.se/Documents/bock_bro_fold/koll_pa_pengarna_2007.pdf A swedish bank (Nordea) still has theirs available though, and it's based also on Konsumentverket's figures. http://www2.capitex.se/nordea/hbudget/index.asp In case you I took the liberty of doing one for you, based on two adults aged 30, a 2yo, and 10k SEK a month rent, and the calculated figures for other living costs are as follows: Groceries: Food (livsmedel): 3570 Hobbies (Lek & Fritid): 1080 Clothes/Shoes (Kläder, skor): 1370 Groceries: Hygiene (hygien): 980 (I guess this includes laundry and things like that) Household wares (Möbler, husgeråd): 730 All figures in SEK.

How much money will I need to live in Sundsvall Sweden for a year without working

How much money will I need to live in Sundsvall Sweden for a year without working?
I want to move to Sundsvall, Sweden from the United Kingdom and I am wondering how much money I need for a year without work. I am planning on getting a 1 bedroom flat. need to pay for food, bills and rent and things for my self (within reason of course). Any help given in £ will be great ^^. Thanks to all those that answer me :)

I did a flat check for Sundsvall on the Swedish site blocket: http://www.blocket.se Everything is in Swedish, but if you want to check it yourself, choose Västernorrland, then Lägenheter, Uthyres, and put Min/Max antal rum to 2 (2 rooms=1 bedroom in Sweden). Prices range 3500-6000kr, with an average of 4500kr. There is no council tax. A 100mb internet connection + telephone can be found for under 300kr. If you want cable television, add another 300kr/month and about 2000kr/year for a television licence. http://www.bredbandsbolaget.se/wps/portal/privat/bredband?page=new&WCM_GLOBAL_CONTEXT=/wps/wcm/connect/b2/privat/bredband/bredband100_lan Utility bills have gone up since I last lived there, but in previous years they averaged about 600kr/month for a 1-bedroom flat. 1000/month should be a safe budget. 2000kr should be enough for food shopping, it depends on your habits. About 500kr for a transportation card. 2000+ for personal expenses. So, my estimate is minimum 11000kr/month to live comfortably enough. That's about £850, or £10200/year. You'll probably need a bit extra to get started, since you'll most likely have to furnish the flat yourself. Ads that say möblerad are furnished, omöblerad are not. Blocket is a good place to find cheap (used) furniture, or you can do what the students do and take a trip to IKEA.

China, Japan, or Sweden. Where to live and work

China, Japan, or Sweden. Where to live and work?
Hi everyone! Well I started to look at China and Chinese and kinda like the country and the language. But I also LOVE the culture and language of Japan. Yet I also like Sweden in terms of work and education... So I have a few questions... -Which language is better used for the future in business or general usefulness? -Which country would be more "Fun" and exciting to live in? -Which language is harder to learn, and yes I mean also learning the Kanji, not just Romaji or Pinyin. -Do you need to learn Swedish to live in Sweden? I mean do you really use it everyday? Because I would be very happy to learn it, but I don't want to learn Swedish for nothing ^-^ I might add more later :) Cheers! 良い一日を! 有一个愉快的一天! Ha en trevlig dag! Havu bonan tagon! -If I were to learn Chinese, should it be Cantonese or Mandarin? And should I learn to write in Chinese Traditional or Simplified Hans?

Sweden, most people speak English. Plus there is not the issue of Government oppression or overpopulation. Japan seems like it would be pretty fun though. Stay away from China.

Oh it is not a good time to Japan.
3 :
of course, china. it develops fast , someone said it'd exceed us someday. mandarin is official language in china, people who speak cantonese must speak mandarin , but most people who can speak mandarin can speak cantonese. thus it's more popular to learn mandarin. http://www.studyinhubei.com.cn/ Central China Normal University (CCNU) was founded in 1903. It is a comprehensive and prestigious university on the list of the “National 211 Priority Project”. Located in Wuhan, a major hub of transportation, it has a campus on Guizi Mountain, a hill bordering the East Lake and the South Lake.

I think Sweden would be more easy for you, due to the culture and that a lot of people speak English. It's easy to survive with English, however I think that no matter where you go, you should learn some of the language they speak. By that you're showing respect. Also it would be easier to get friends and understand things on the street, tv and so on. How fun is it to watch TV if you can't understand anything of what they're saying? How fun is it to have Swedish friends those times when they speak in Swedish, making you an outsider? You do use Swedish everyday. I never speak English, except in situations when I have to... which I kind of avoid. If you want a language that is good for business and communicating with a lot of people, then I guess Swedish isn't a particularly good choice in comparison. Although I must say that Asians CAN be negative about foreigners speaking their language... And that should be more so when it comes to business/work. Swedish is also a more rare language to learn, I think that makes us more accepting and tolerant... you're just not another beginner and foreigner, one of the crowd. You're more unique and special. But this is just what I think... But I'm not telling you to learn Swedish. That is something you should decide on your own... follow your heart! *stupid smile*. I guess Chinese would be a pretty good choice though :( *frowns* Ha en trevlig dag du med! ;)
5 :
It's my impression that if you want to live and/or work in Sweden, the swedish government will make you learn the language (and I don't blame them). They will organize it for you, but I don't know if they wil pay for it all. As to chinese, you do realise that its one written language but several dozen spoken ones? Cxu ni jam renkontis unu la alian en jahugrupo?

Actually, the Swedes have abandoned it. Sorry, it's a difficult essay topic because the pro arguments aren't very good. But you could point out that Sweden was pretty prosperous when it did have democratic socialism.
2 :
Gini coefficient is very low (weath is distributed properly). Human Development Index is high (Well developed country). Average income around $45K annually, since gini is low its a good approximation to everyone in the country. While the socialist party is no longer in power, their government is socialist as rules can't just be undone. Decades of socialism will result in a long period of time before anything chages. Taxation is about 50% of income. So if you make $1000 after taxes you only get half. 13.4% are immigrants, signaling a healthy and prosperous economy. School is free including university, this helps in equalizing opportunities. Sweden has long been at the forefront of research and development, even though its only a few million people. Sweden ranked either as the first or second country publishing the highest number of scientific publications in the fields of medical science, natural science and engineering in 2001. Healthcare is free. Life expectancy is high. When you consider the size of Sweden vs its accomplishments and position at the world wide scale, it is clear that socialism has made this possible as it allowed a capitalist system to be in place, but the wealth distribution to be more equalized, and gives everyone an opportunity at university and higher education.

what do I need to work in Germany if I have a polish girlfriend

what do I need to work in Germany if I have a polish girlfriend?

Yes you can get a resident and work permit for Germany, but it is very very difficult. You'd need to have a qualification that is very much in demand such as engineer or computer specialist. Bachelor is usually the minimum requirement. You have first have to find a job in Germany, then you need to apply for special skilled migrant visa at the German embassy in your country of residence. If you are serious about your girlfriend consider to get married, as marriage would give you the automatic right to live with her in Germany and also give you the right to a work permit. Another option you should look at is a job in Spain. The Spanish authorities actively recruit young university graduates and skilled workers from Mexico, once you have been working in Spain for a few years it will be a lot easier get a residency and work permit for Germany. (There are special EU regulations that make it easier to get a residency and work permit for one EU state if you have held a residency and work permit for another EU country for a certain time already.) Plus is also that your girlfriend is allowed to work and live in Spain without a residency or work permit and Spain is much closer to Germany than Mexico.

Why and why not? *Facepalm* Democratic Socialism is a path of Socialism not from the Democratic party...... US is already a semi socialist nation
3 :
No, we have a much bigger population and already have many people leeching off the system on welfare. If you take more from those who are productive and work, only to redistribute it to those who don't, it's only a matter of when, not if, the entire system would collapse.
4 :
To varying degrees, aren't we already there? We've had a hybrid or capitalism and social programs since the 60s, and arguably since the 20s. It isn't a question of working or not, it's a question of which works BETTER.
5 :
There are to many borders for that. Also many Americans would not settle for less than the freedom many have died for.
6 :
How big is Sweden? How large was the low-income population compared to their middle to high income population before they turned socialist? How big is America? How large is America's low income population compared to the middle- to high income population?
7 :
It doesn't work in Sweden and will never work in America, that's why.
8 :
It's not entirely based on if it "would" work, but how to sustain it .. and if people would conform to it.
9 :
No ... too many uneducated, ill informed Americans who have never traveled even past their own state boundaries ... like Tommy, even the word 'socialism' already makes them crap their pants!
10 :
You do realize the tax rate in Sweden is over 50%. Is that something you want?
11 :
Me being of the belief that no form of socialism can "work", even one disguised in democracy, no.
12 :
9 million vs 300 million population? I don't thinks so. Our unemployed population is more than that.
13 :
It may take a bunch of trials and errors. In principle, the populace wants it, even grass root conservatives have principles similar to democratic socialism, but upon implementation, the existing capitalistic sources of revenue would shut down in protest, like major banks, and lending institutions. It would be up to the populace to demand its continuation, despite of these institutions rebelling against it. Then they would find an alternative way of ripping us off. But it would be good for the US and we should stop fear-mongering. I actually think it will happen the day that existing capitalism fails so badly that it won't be able to mask its own shortcomings anymore, and then the everyday man will say "what the f Uck! Lets get rid of these bums, or better yet, lets make them work for us, instead us for them!!" I actually believe in a Socialist government in a capitalist economy. That means, government provides all the citizens for their basic needs and provides a leveled playing field for companies, but the companies have to actually compete, not make silent-cartels, and reach people have to actually work to be rich, not just benefit from speculation. How can anyone object to this, in principle? I know implementation is a mess, but we need to strive to achieve it.

I know some electronics can handle a range of volts, for example my laptop can handle 100-240V so it works in Europe and the US as long as i convert the actual plug, but I dont have to convert the power. Would this be true for some lamps as well? And if the lamp can only handle 110V, can I just use a transformer to convert 230V down to 110V? ...and what about the hertz?

I think you still have to have a converter
2 :
You may just need to change the plug. At work we convert European to American by just changing plug you may also need to change socket but it will be cheaper than a converter.
3 :
The lamp is o.k., the bulp however (110 Volts), will produce a bright light, but only for a couple of seconds/minutes, then it will quit the service (broken filament). Just buy a european 230 volts bulb and use it with your lamp. Regular bulps have the same fittings. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fotodesign-luetke/2278501483/ Furthermore you need a plug-adapter, since Swedish plug/sockets look like that. http://kropla.com/!f.htm
4 :
My friend brought a lamp from the states to Europe and just had someone change the plug for her. I brought a vhs recorder years ago and had a electrician neighbor fix it for me to work over here in Europe. We also brought a converter over from the states that works for small appliances.

You would have to contact the California credentialing office. Their website: http://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/default.html I can tell you that international credentials don't transfer easily. Your pay is based on the district. Search for your intended district's pay scale.

I have recieves my work permit and my invitation letter from China and?
I am working in Sweden atm and will go back to Australia for two months before i go to china to work. According to the chinese employer, they said that i cannot apply for the Z visa in Sweden and must go back to Australia to apply for the Z visa as the docs have been forwarded to the consulate in Sydney. I dont think this is correct?????because it is to my understanding that as long as you have the permit and letter you can apply for the visa at any chinese consulate regardless of the country?

I agree you should be able to apply in any Chinese embassy. You will not get your Z visa until you have a body check in China. I tried to get my check up in the US but China said I had to do it in China. A Z visa is good it is a multi entry visa and has almost no restrictions. Some business Visa's require you to leave China every 60 days for 24 hours then return. You must remember China has it's own rules and they don't bend much, if they say you must return to your homeland then apply you will need to do so. I'm guessing you will teach English as I did and I had a wonderful time. Good Luck.
2 :
Your letter of invitation/application (from your Chinese employers) must state where you are to apply from. A former employer of mine had to specify the Hong Kong consulate for a fellow foriegn teacher to get his Z visa there. What "permit" are you talking about? All you need to apply for a Z visa is an invitation letter/contract. No "permits" are issued before you have these. email me if you need any help/advice.

what do you think of migrate to Sweden

what do you think of migrate to Sweden ?
i need your opinions of this idea .. is it good or not to work in Sweden i heard that too and i have read somethings about it and i liked it .... a lot of things you don't have to pay for it like apartment ,hospitals and more than that .. and they say that they teach you the language they speak so this is not a big deal .. but the big problem i think about it that i have nothing to work there so if i went there i'll not be sure what will be my job .. thats's all Nicolas ..... what is the problem of being Muslim ?

if you speak the language and have a job offer ..why not
2 :
I was just thinking about this today. It is too cold but what I heard is one of the safest country in the world.
3 :
high wages, but high taxes too. that works out well, if you're a citizen, with health care, housing subsidies, etc. as a non citizen you are not eligible for those extra benefits.
4 :
Too cold and very expensive a pint of beer will cost you $15 in some places!
5 :
If you speak the language, if you accept their way of life, if you are no Moslem, if you have a job and enough money to survive without becoming a burden to their social system, if you like long winters and short cool summers, then you can consider this country. And don't forget they have the highest taxing system in the world.
6 :
This is not to the one who asked the question, I'm sorry, but I just have to write this down. It's always important to know the language of course, and learn to live somewhat like the people do in the country someone wants to move to. But there's nothing wrong with being Muslin, and I don't know how it works for an immigrant to move to Sweden, sadly, it's not the same as how it was for my English dad when he moved here for 30 years ago, EU has make it easier/harder for people to move here, depending on where they are from/their VISA says. Long winters? Maybe in the north. Cool summers? Are you kidding me? We had 35c many days last summer, and that was not cool, that. Was. Hot. I hope you know some geography? The Gulf stream goes all the way along the coast of Denmark and Norway, and that makes our climate more 'stable'. And the highest tax system in the world? No, sorry, we may be on the Top 10 list, but if I remember it right Denmark has higher taxes (or even the highest). And you do get a lot back from the state, free education, all the way from primary school, all through the Gymnasium (somewhat similar to the US high school) and even the University is free, except for that you have to pay for the materials etc. Free health care, some more things that I can't remember the English names for, and I'm way too tired to continue this argument since it's 01:33 (am) - I'm sorry Nicolas, but I got somewhat offended by your comment, you lack too much knowledge to actually say anything like that.

How should I go about my resume in Sweden

How should I go about my resume in Sweden?
Hi, I was just wondering what a resume or CV should look like in Sweden. What sort of personal information, if any, should be included and if there any suggested legnth. I lived and worked in Sweden a few years ago and I have a decent handle on the language and business customs, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't leaving anything out. I've got these categories in this order (outside of the personal info): Arbetserfarenheter Utbildning Språk Dator erfarenhet/färdighet Övrigt Also, should I put my personnummer on the resume? My work visa is still valid. Tack Thanks

sweden immigration, new law

sweden immigration, new law
what about the new immigration law proposed in sweden by the immigration minister tobias billstrom? It says, starting from mid december non EU citizens can be free to work in sweden provided they have an employment offer. I am already in Germany. My girlfriend is a swede who is returning back to sweden. I would like to join her. But need a job to live. Say if I go the following way. Being a resident of schengen state, I can freely travel to sweden. find a job in some shop or retail or restaurent. Ask the business owner to fill the form. Take the form with me to germany and apply for a residence permit. Will it work. I dont fit into skilled category. Does this new law apply to skilled candidates? or more open even towards not so skilled candidates.

Written offer of employment in Sweden, made out on a special form which your employer can obtain via the Swedish Public Employment Service's website: www.arbetsformedlingen.se. After approval from the Public Employment Service, your employer must send the form to you so that you can enclose it with your application. (Your employer must guarantee you pay, insurance coverage and other terms of employment equal to at least the collective agreement or Swedish practice in the profession or the branch of trade. Accommodation must have been arranged for you in Sweden. You must be fully prepared to leave Sweden when your term of employment is over.) http://www.swedenabroad.com/Page____13398.aspx i have always thought you could work in Sweden provided you had an offer, from an employer who in turn had permission from the immigration . ps: but before hiring you, the employer would have to qualified by immigration laws, you could perhaps look on the internet? but the link i have found is is swede, http://www.monster.se/ http://www.monster.com/ then you could apply for a work visa trough the immigration at the embassy/consulate in Germany, http://www.swedenabroad.se/Start____16745.aspx you do not always have to fit within qualified skills, then of course the job offers are limited, but? on never knows, you may still find some good job. you have to apply for the work visa first and then you would get a residence permission,
2 :
I would give it a shot. They're proposing for this law to change December 15th and they say that it will be up to the employer to decide if they feel they cannot find people with the right skills to fill a position at their company. The idea of the proposition, however, is that if employers cannot find people with certain skills within the EU they can look outside. This will probably mean you are looking more at people with specialised skills or educations, but give it a go. Just keep a plan B in the back of your mind.

You need to apply at the American Embassy.
2 :
application is made at the American embassy in Sweden. without an employer who has certified that they can't find suitable Americans for the job, it likely won't be approved AND the embassy clerks will help you understand what is required under the different programs that exist.
3 :
US Embassy. Be aware the the Work visa (HB1 visas) are only for occupations in which there is a shortage, typically nursing and doctors and you are fully sponsored by a certified and legal medical institution and yuo have met all the medical/board certifications to practice medicine in USA. The other work visas are when someone in the US has already offered you a job and is willing to fully sponsor you. They have to be a legal bussiness, not a friend of a relative. If you just want a work visa, just 'cuz you home to find a job, I'm afraid that you are out of luck. Good luck
4 :
USA embassy. I have L1 visa-work and I apply in USA embassy in my country.
5 :
You do NOT apply. In the United States it is the employer who makes the application. So, first you need to find an employer who is willing to hire you and sponsor you for the visa. Then, the employer will make the application.
6 :
Hello Nic From your question I understood you are Swedish National intending to work in United States. If you find a suitable job in United States, your employer will apply for a workpermit for you and you have to process your documents through the Embassy of the United States in Stockholm Embassy of the United States of America Dag Hammarskjölds Väg 31, SE-115 89 Stockholm, Sweden Tel: (+46) 8 783 5300 StockholmWeb@state.gov Don't rush set a plan and work accordingly, good luck.

Maybe the Swedes are above assuming that every Thai woman is going to start working as a prostitute as soon as she comes into the country. Why should anyone who is capable of looking after them need permission from someone else?
2 :
Basically it is illegal to work in Sweden (or any other country) while you're there on a tourist visa. If your wife does this, then she might be arrested, put in jail for a while and eventually be deported out of the country without having the possibility of coming back. It might look as a hole in the system when someone can work there without the proper visa but if they do, they also have to live with the consequenses.
3 :
You are not allowed to work with a tourist visa, and if you want a work permit you have to go back to your own country first to apply for it. Probably you won't get it, because it's extremely difficult to move to Sweden without being a refugee or having very close family already in Sweden, for example if you marry a Swedish resident.

You will find a lot of the things you need to know at this website: (its in English) http://www.sweden.se/templates/cs/Frontpage.aspx?id=1898 In Sweden they learn English in school (mandatory) from the age of 8 or 9 and most people speak fluent English. You'll also find that even some commercial or ads are in English in Sweden. You will get around just fine with English but you'll need to speak the language to get a decent job. Finding a low-key job as a dishwasher, bartender, cleaner etc shouldn't be to hard. Take a Swedish for Immigrants (SFI) course at the nearest school, courses are free of charge.

Living and Working in Sweden

Living and Working in Sweden.?
Hey, I would like to move to Sweden, and I am currently living in the UK (London). I am a chartered accountant and graduated from university specialized in IT. I have also studied Swedish and have past my exams. So my question(s) is How do I get the right to live in Sweden and work there as well. And also how much does an Chartered Accountant earn average (if you don't know no need to answer). How much is a 2/3 bedroom house (SEK/Pounds) in central Stockholm as that is where I am planning to live. Is Stockholm a great place to live in (be honest please as this can change my mind). Do I need to retake exams to drive a car in Sweden as I have already qualified for a full licensee here in the UK. Is Sweden expensive compared to the UK (optional) Has Sweden got a great late night parties? Thanks this is all I can think of at the moment and I greatly appreciate it if you can answer my questions (not all). I have done research but I want to hear it from a different person/point of view. Best answer gets the highest point even though I appreciate for taking time to answer my question Serious answers please this could be life changing! Thank you again for taking your precious time to answer my question, very much Love from the UK!

Of course, except now is not the time to be looking for jobs in Sweden/Europe. The recession has hit Europe hard too. Some of the large American companies in Sweden are IBM and GM (Saab). Incidentally Volvo is owned by Ford (for now). There are lots of technology companies represented in Sweden. From Microsoft to medicines. I wonder what you really want with this information? Working in Sweden requires a work permit and visa. If you want to transfer to an American company in Sweden it will only happen from within the company. And they don't do a lot of that because of the cost and paperwork involved. They would only do that if they really wanted/needed you. You would need a lot of experience. And not least would you need to speak the local language *fluently* to be of any real use.

Logic
2 :
Having been to Sweden, I can confirm that the average Swede lives with a much higher quality of life than the typical American. You get what you pay for.
3 :
in sweden they actually get results for their tax dollars. there are not many conservatives to water everything down or outright destroy things like we have here.
4 :
The Vikings were hard workers to begin with, plus they luckily didn't get as tainted with the whole religious movement. They were a society of warriors and hardworking individuals who prided themselves in what they did. That's bottom line the answer to their success. But like C White said, you hardly see a Swede with 3 cars and two houses like Americans have.
5 :
I've been to Sweden and I know many Swedes. Here's the stunner: the Swedish people I know enjoy their jobs and simply care about being productive members of society. They pay high taxes because they get many good services from their government.
6 :
The key is that they actually work. Here we have a whole segment(millions) of society who are leeches and don't want to contribute..
7 :
Most of them work, so they get the Tax they pay to work for them. Look at the average wage there, quality of life, immigration control and the benefits the workers get. Mass employment really does work and respect for all careers. That could be why such a small country does so well. Greed comes from taking something from another. No sweat shops so you can buy a cheap shirt, no whipping the pot wash because they are poor, as you don't pay them much. I would go for mass employment any day.
8 :
We work so we can pay taxes of course. ;) Actually, work can be quite fun and you have to do something in life, otherwise you'll be bored. I would never want to live off other people's tax money unless I have to. Being unemployed makes you feel like you're a burden, as if you're not doing anything meaningful in life. I think that's actually much worse than the economical disadvantage of being unemployed, but not all Swedes would agree with me. Many Swedes only work for the money too. I don't mind paying taxes since I don't really need that money anyway. When you have enough money to live a comfortable life, more money won't make you happier. And we DO get most of it back, the benefits of living in a welfare-state are worth paying for. Even if I would end up paying more taxes than I get back, I will still believe that my money was used for good purposes. It's like an insurance, it's good to have one if you need it, and if you don't, then at least you've helped somebody else.
9 :
Like Vendelay says, most Swedes are content with paying their taxes because we are made aware of, or take an interest in, what we actually get out of the taxes: virtually free health care, free education including at University level, lots of foreign aid, a good welfare system, police and rescue services, a high proportion of foreign aid and a very low proportion of defence and armed forces costs. There are probably other innumerable things I've forgotten to mention. If you're a wage earner, you can't do much to avoid paying taxes, and you probably won't want to work more than 40 hours/week even if you could, because you wouldn't have time to enjoy life. Businesses and the self-employed may be more motivated by greed, and they are also the ones with the most opportunities to cheat. With the ridiculously high tax rates of the 70s, everyone but the poor wanted to avoid or evade taxes, legally or otherwise, but things have changed, and with a reformed tax system and a few years of conservative rule, only a small number of extremely wealthy Swedes need go into tax exile. The general idea now is that it should be worth your while making money, and the tax rate should be bearable. That way, people will be less likely to try and cheat and more willing to pay their taxes, and the economy will improve.

4 :
Perhaps you should read up on how compensation works in Sweden. Due to the confiscatory taxes, anyone with marketable skills asks for non-taxable perks, such as use of a car, housing subsidized by the employer, etc...
5 :
Quality of life, I would say. They pay a lot in taxes but they get a lot for it. Without worries about how to pay for health care, education, child care and a host of other services, they are free to live their lives, enjoy their free time and not be afflicted by stress like Americans.
6 :
Really? lol, ask them about it, they are not so happy. They don't rank 4th either. You have no earthly idea what the heck you are talking about.
7 :
There culture is much different. They aren't spoiled. They work hard because they don't just care about themselves but about their country. Swedes are bred to work hard. Their happy to pay tax because they get quality education and quality public services.
8 :
People share a common tendency to be good and understand what is good for one is good for the common good. Greed and thievery is tempered by the longer term management of social and economic imperatives. The Swedes are obviously smarter and more educated than the average American corporate whore.
9 :
How do you get a Swede to jump off a cliff? Line meatballs up to the edge!
10 :
Sweden has 32 paid vacation days per year.
11 :
Most people work hard for a better life for themselves & those they love. I wouldn't call that greed. As for Sweden i don't know. There are only 9 million people there. And they all seem to be from pretty much the same background. That can make it easier to run a government & agree on things. And with Sweden a part of the EU now. If they don't like Sweden they can work elsewhere with in the EU. Not sure how that affects their taxes but they don't have to be stuck in Sweden if they don't want too.
12 :
Happy? Check this out: A bursting real estate bubble caused by inadequate controls on lending combined with an international recession and a policy switch from anti-unemployment policies to anti-inflationary policies resulted in a fiscal crisis in the early 1990s. In 1992, there was a run on the currency, with the central bank briefly jacking up interest to 500%. The response of the government was to cut spending and institute a multitude of reforms to improve Sweden's competitiveness, among them reducing the welfare state and privatizing public services and goods. ************************************ sound familiar at all? ************************************ Since the late 1960s, Sweden has had the highest tax quota (as percentage of GDP) in the industrialized world, although today the gap has narrowed and Denmark has surpassed Sweden as the most heavily taxed country among developed countries. Payroll taxes amount to 32%. In addition, a national VAT of 25% is added to many things bought by private citizens, with the exception of food (12% VAT), transportation, and books (6% VAT). *************************************** VAT anyone? *************************************** Eighty percent of the workforce is organized through the trade-unions Sweden have a relatively high amount of sick leave per worker in OECD: the average worker loses 24 days due to sickness. Now that's a LOT of sick! 5 weeks a year? Happy? Doubtful they are that happy. Between Jake's stat on paid vacation days, and this stat for sick days, that's almost 3 months out of the year these bums do not have to work! lol Having 60% of my income taken from me, would stress me out. I am guessing that soon enough Sweden will go the way of Greece.

Most Swedes are content with paying their taxes because we are made aware of, or take an interest in, what we actually get out of the taxes: virtually free health care, free education including at University level, lots of foreign aid, a good welfare system, police and rescue services, a high proportion of foreign aid and a very low proportion of defence and armed forces costs. What do you hope to gain by posting exactly the same question twice in two days? OK, it saved me saying it all again, I just copied my previous answer...

How do you work legally in France if you are from Sweden?(countries within EU)

How do you work legally in France if you are from Sweden?(countries within EU)?
Is it hard? Do you need to get a Visa? Or is it okay to just have a passport and be EU-citizen?

the EU has open borders to EU nationals so all you need is a passport and maybe just register that you have moved country
2 :
Speak with a french accent and grow a moustache so people think you are french. Wearing a beret, a string of onions round your neck and a stripy shirt would also help disguise yourself.
3 :
Find a job and register with the local police station and voila! Damir - you are talking rubbish!
4 :
"You need working VISA" -Only if you are from a non-EU country.

can you buy kangaroo meat in sweden

can you buy kangaroo meat in sweden?
Hi I'm looking to work in Sweden at the continental markets for 2 months. We have an australian BBQ (but are based in the UK) and we sell kangaroo burgers and wild boar burgers. Does anyone know anywhere in or near to Sweden that sell Kangaroo burgers? We can take them over ourselves, but it's a whole lot easier if we can get them over there instead! Thanks for any help to this strange question! Thanks - but they are in China & Japan - I'm looking for someone in Sweden

Which place is better to work? Denmark, Norway or Sweden

Which place is better to work? Denmark, Norway or Sweden?
In terms of salary, the standard affordable quality of living, which is which?

Typically, from an average pay to worth ratio, Denmark is the most expensive, with Sweden the least, though Norway is only a tiny bit less expensive than Denmark so the difference would be negligible between the two. Norway has the highest pay, then Denmark, then Sweden. Denmark has the highest taxes, then Norway, then Sweden. Though they are all a lot higher than pretty much anywhere else in the world. In terms of quality of living they are all very interesting countries with a high standard of living, with Norway ranking 1st on HDI, I can't remember off the top of my head where Denmark and Sweden sit, but they are also both equally high. The countries have all consistently ranked in the best to live in, and they have all been ranked as some of the happiest places to live. I hope that puts it into a bit of perspective for you. To most people, particularly people moving there, or looking at them from the outside, the differences between the countries are very small and not as noticeable as they are overall, since all of them are so different to what most people are used to in their own countries.

Salary is higher in Denmark and Norway than in Sweden, though whether Denmark or Norway is higher depends on the field. As an example, you ask about Swedish pharmacist salaries in another question. A pharmacist in Norway can earn from 10000 kr (SEK) more in Norway, up to double wage for management positions. Average salaries for Danish pharmacists are similar to Norwegian, but slightly lower (following links are in Norwegian/Danish, but are the only ones I could find). http://www.farmaceutene.no/id/2072 http://www.ug.dk/job/ingenioerteknikognaturvid/medicoarb/farmaceut.aspx Taxes are complicated and based on marginal rates (the income you earn above a certain level is taxed at a higher rate than the income below that level). To simplify, your take-home pay will be the highest percentage of your earned wage in Sweden (and least in Denmark). However, you'll still generally earn a larger amount after tax in Norway. This report is very helpful in explaining cost of living in the 3 countries: http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/statistics_explained/index.php/Price_levels_of_consumer_goods_and_services Denmark is ranked most expensive in Europe, but it ranks this highly due to the cost of fuel/electricity and personal transport. In all other categories (food/alcohol, public transport, consumer goods), Norway is more expensive. Sweden ranks between Luxembourg and France, with lower costs than those in furniture (no surprise) and high tech, but higher in most everything else. Denmark and Norway rank in the highest group of GDP per head, and Sweden in the 2nd group. However, all 3 rank in the highest group for price levels. http://epp.eurostat.ec.europa.eu/portal/page/portal/product_details/publication?p_product_code=KS-BE-06-002 Affordability is impossible to say without knowing your personal standard of living. If you live comfortably but economically in Norway, you will have one of the highest discretionary incomes in Europe on an average salary (but you can earn more in very high-income jobs in other countries outside of Scandinavia). The same salary in all 3 countries will afford you the highest standard of living in Sweden, but that can't be used to compare since your salary will almost always be higher in the other 2. All three countries have similar benefits. One thing to consider is that economic problems have hit Sweden the hardest. I found a few articles that said graduate pharmacists are taking lower-paying jobs as dispensers since they can't find work. Norway is lacking health care professionals, specifically pharmacists according to some news articles. This one states that pharmacies are travelling as far as Poland in search for employees to fill positions. http://www.nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/ostafjells/buskerud/1.6911196 My economic knowledge on Denmark isn't as good compared to Sweden/Norway, as I haven't lived there.

How can I purchase Work Permit from the Employers/Recruiters in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Sweden

How can I purchase Work Permit from the Employers/Recruiters in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Sweden?

There are multiple problems with this plan: -All of these countries are in the EU, which means they are required to follow EU rules for hiring foreign workers. An employer has to submit proof that they followed protocol in hiring you. -Work permits can only be given for highly skilled work, when no EU/EEA applicants qualify for the job. In addition, most jobs require good knowledge of the local language. -Thus, if you don't have the education/experience proof to back up a highly-skilled job, an offer letter is meaningless. -A work permit is only valid for the particular job/company that is sponsoring you. This means you can't buy a permit, then find a job with another company. If you lose your job with that company, you legally have no right to stay in the country. You also have no rights in that country, like health care. -No employer will risk hiring illegally (or writing offer letters for money), when there are plenty of legal applicants. The company faces fines or worse if caught.

Ok i have some homework to do.. What is the satuatory retirement age in sweden(you must retire! sorta thing?)?? What is the approx. percentage of people between 19-25 or 24 years old in sweden? Can people work beyond their retirement age in sweden?

The statutory retirement age in Sweden is 67. You can't receive your pension before age 61 though, and most people retire at age 65. 65 is the age from which you can collect a state-guaranteed minimum pension. http://www.eurofound.europa.eu/eiro/2001/03/feature/se0103186f.htm http://www.pensionsmyndigheten.se/WhenYouRetire_en.html http://www.sweden.se/eng/Home/Society/Pensions/ People currently cannot work beyond retirement age, though some people want to. Here's an article about it (through Google Translate): http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=sv&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sulf.se%2Ftemplates%2FCopyrightPage.aspx%3Fid%3D2222 You can add up the population by age to get a percentage of the total population by using the table here: http://www.scb.se/Pages/TableAndChart____262460.aspx

You don't give any details of your nationality and in which case it makes it nigh impossible to answer your question. If you hold an EU passport then in principle you are free to move to these countries under the EU/EEA agreements, and then seek work. However, if you are non-EU/EEA, then you will need a visa and/or residence permit and/or a work permit, and these are not easy to obtain. In principle, you must demonstrate skills that make you unique. The company must apply for a work permit on your behalf and will only receive it IF they can prove that the position mentioned is one that cannot be fulilled by anyone from the pool of labour in the EU/EEA. Therefore working in a hotel and on commerical boats in catering and service - well I am afraid that you will not get a permit for this realistically. Hard to give more info as the info you gave is too limited Sorry

-The right to work in Sweden. In other words, citizenship with an EU or Nordic country, or a residence permit for Sweden. If you're a non-EU resident, you won't be able to get a work permit/company sponsorship for a teller position. -Proficiency in Swedish or another Scandinavian language (additional languages like French or Arabic are always helpful). -I looked up a few teller jobs on career web sites, and all of them say personality is the most important thing. Most prefer some sort of economic background from studies (either the economic line of study from high school, or higher education) or work experience. Qualifications listed are service-oriented, high social competence/outgoing, strong initiative, energetic and ambitious. It seems like many of the jobs go through employment agencies like Adecco and Manpower, so that would be a good place to start if you're interested.

Not without getting a work visa. That will be very difficult unless you have some sought after skills to offer. You will need an employer sponsor you.

There are two types of people in Sweden, Type 1: Their last name is #sson, and they are blond, they are silent and looks nice to you. Sweden in their land, they can do whatever job they like or they have studied for, management service engineering whatever..its open for them. They live in coolest part of the cities where no type 2 people live and they marry and make friend with just type 1 guys or girls. Type 2: Not #sson or not blond, They called "invandrare ". There is no such thing as good or bad , skilled or illiterate invandrare. An invandrare is an invadrare no matter who they are. they do most of the donkey jobs since they are not type 1. You may find some type 2 of people who are integrated to the Swedish society, have a good job and live like type 1 but it would be exceptional. They live in shittiest parts of towns and speak their own language which no type 1 is there. Apparently you're not from type 1, so haha, i hope you have nice time there ^^ !

What is the process to obtain a work visa in Denmark if one has a residency permit in Sweden

What is the process to obtain a work visa in Denmark if one has a residency permit in Sweden?
I live in and am a resident of Sweden (Malmo) and am having a second interview soon. Chances look good, but I don't know what paperwork I need to fill out. I know that my permit doesn't apply to Denmark, though. So, is the process difficult? I will go ot Oresunds Direkt today and ask, but if anyone has any personal experience, could you please post. What is required from the employer? From me? Can one expect for the employer to compensate for the Oresund train card? What are taxes like?

You had better to go to Øresund Direkt in Malmø and ask them. If you are a Swedish resident, you are also a Nordic resident as well as a EU resident. What's the trouble? The salaries are normally higher in Denmark than in Sweden. Det ær bæst att du går till Øresund Direkt i Malmø, de kan besvara alla dina frågor. MVH REB
